  • 98 ls1 engine, freshly rebuilt

I have a 1998 LS1 block out of a 1998 camaro z28 that had 38k on it and was wrecked. Bottom end was torn down by a local machine shop and had all the bearings replaced, ls6 oil pump installed, ls2 timing chain, ARP rod bolts. All upgrades done to improve the strength and ability of engine. Stock 98 cam. Rebuild finished 12/16/09.

Heads are off the engine at the moment but have been cleaned and checked and included along with new GM MLS head gaskets. Heads are perfect.

Intake, throttlebody and accessories not included. Most guys go with a ls6 intake for better flow. Great for a retro build or to replace a blown engine in a 4th gen Fbody.

Planned on finding a roller to put it into, but looking at buying a house and need the money right now for the downpayment. :(

    $2000 or best offer. Thanks.

P.S. Shipping would be on you to set up and pay for, would rather not ship due to size and weight.

? if you buy a 98 Ls1 block can you use a 02 pcm and wiring for it. Just asking since I have HPtuners for a 02' LS1. Thanks

yea you would be able to. You would just have to use the 99+ valve covers and coils as the coil harness is slightly different I believe with the perimeter bolted coils. Someone correct me if I am wrong about this. I planned on using a 99 PCM for the engine.

You know if there are certain years that LS1 PCM's are the same like our 96' switching to 97' PCM, so instead of using a 02' PCM I could use a 99',00',01 or 02 PCM? I don't know alot about LS1's except 98' was the b@stard year of LS1's but since it ha already been redone I wouldn't have to worry about that. I know I see alot of 98' LS1 engines for sale for guys going to 99'+ engines. I know I would do a decent cam, LS6 intake, headers, tub K and just tune it with Hptuners. Should be good for 350+ wrhp.

Re: 98 ls1 engine, freshly rebuilt

98s are different, the rest should be interchangeable with any ls1 wiring harness. Unsure on year specific switching. The PCM section of ls1tech should have that posted somewhere I'd imagine.

As for the 98 engines, yea the rod bolts, oil pump, and timing chain are the weak links in the blocks and the PCM has less tables to tune with. All the engine items have been addressed with the ARP rod bolts, ls2 timing chain and ls6 oil pump. So the block is good to go now just like any newer block. There are cam only guys with headers and ls6 intakes seeing 400+ hp. LS1s dyno really well stock, so 350rwhp would be no problem to hit with just bolt ons and no cam.
