Hawk, the jounce bumper extenders act as spacers underneath the stock rubber jounce bumpers in the rear. They cause the rubber bumpers to come into play at reduced suspension movement thus limiting the travel at high loads. With 17in and up rims and some tires I think there can be some tire/wheelwell lip interference at full travel if these are not used. I believe that f-bodies with factory 17's already have some type of bumper extender like these. I did have 17's with 275/45's on the back of my 98 convertible and never had a rub issue, but I also never came close to using anywhere near the full suspension travel either.Hope this helps.
