how difficult is the transgo shift kit to install? was it ever used or installed? what can i look to performance wise by installing it on my stock A4 ? I have a 2000 3.8 obv.

I wouldn't suggest installing the transgo shift kit yourself unless you have some knowledge of how automatic transmission works and you are good at following instructions. No, never used or installed. its brand new.
Performance wise, you can set it to shift harder. Decreasing the shift time. You will also be able to shift manually.

hwo do you shift manually?

You put the shifter all the way down to 1 and it will stay in first gear. Put it in 2 and it will stay in 2nd. etc.
