posted, and also im an advicator of the "do it yourself".... lifter and manifold gaskets really are a breeze. For someone with little to no motor knowledge, you could knock both of em out in a weekend.

I live in the Dayton, OH area and I've noticed a lot of people from Ohio on the forums and was wondering if anyone did any side work? I'm not looking for cheap labor just not what the dealer would charge. Price is very negotiable. I would also be willing to drive to Columbus or Cincinnati as well.

Here's the tasks....

First and foremost....lower intake manifold gasket. I've had a pressure test done to confirm that it is in fact leaking. Dealer wants ~$500 to reaplce. Ugh.

Secondly......I'm almost 100% sure that my lifters need some work because I've been get some loud clicking, ticking, something, when I start my car while its cold. Also, my oil pressure gauge is dancing around a lot, especially when I idle. After the car warms up for a few minutes the ticking goes away.

Also, I was thinking, since my engine will be taken apart quite a bit maybe there are some mods I can throw into the tasks. But that's another conversation.

I know a guy, he does nice work. He's the mechanic that made my Firebird's parts last 200k miles ( and still pretty strong, here and there the normal wear and tear. )

Moses: Fairborn huh? My buddy graduated from FHS in '96. And thanks for the phone number of that guy. Do you know how much he charges for work?

UDLOSE98: I work with computers (and people) and I'm also an advicator of the "do it yourself" but I was told that on the '99 Camaros the engine is recessed so far back that its makes the job a lot harder.

Geek to geek... if you can read and have the tools (and down time) you can do anything. I vowed not to be my father... a mechanic. So computers were it for me. Now.. wrenching is a fun hobby for me. The Jeep, the bikes, and the cars. From engine swaps to brake jobs. I've done almost all of it. None of it with my father. Just with some friends, my tools and my brain.

What's the worst you have to do.. pay someone to do it after you've tried??

These guys are in Blue Ash, north of Cinci. Not sure how expensive, but they mainly work on Fbodys. Tracy and Tye....

the price isnt hateful, ive priced them before and it was a bit less than most places. they do a kickass job on everything they do though.

I'm from fairborn as well. =) He usually charges $45/hr tops, I think. Which, may be too much for your budget ( cheaper than pontiac arbogast, they wanted 1500 just for one side of the head gasket. >O about 1800-1900 for both. )

if yo upost up i dfb, or even RLV6, you might be able to get some knowledgable peeps to help you do it for beer @ pizza, unless an admin comes down, then it's coffe or maybe a little Capt M

By the way, I used to have this...my gauge didn't dance alot, at first it'd read low pressure, and I'd have an annoying tick like you said, mine was all over the motor so I was worried.

Dropped in BP 93+ octane, filtered all the 87 octane out, and I haven't heard the tick in 2 months at all, no matter how cold it's been out. =)

if the gauge is fluctuating that much its probably the oil sending unit.
