Advice On Buying Camaro V6

I am looking for advice on what to look for in a used Camaro v6. I have already decided on a manual transmission. Other than that I prefer teal, blue and black -- in that order for body color. I am looking for something that is drivable and has no major problems. What is the highest mileage I should be considering? How expensive are repairs to get something that is less excellent shape up to excellent? Are there any problem areas to be aware of when looking at a used Camaro? Are some years better than others?

Here is one I am considering. Does the price seem high?

so long as it's been well maintained, buying a 150K+ f-body isn't an issue...but, with that comes proving that it's been well-maintained, and that's a slippery situation. The most expensive repairs you'll probably encounter is rebuilding the transmission, or replacing a blown head gasket. When looking at a used Camaro, you may want to go shopping while it's raining...this is so b/c this will tell you pretty quick if the t-tops are leaking, and what condition the tires are in. If you had to pick from the full gambit of cars, 2000+ have the best exhaust system stock and intake setup (straight intake)

That Camaro you listed is WAY overpriced. For my '99 Firebird with 37K miles, I paid a hair over $7k...

The best thing to do is shop around a while. I know if that Camaro were local, it would be extremely overpriced, but I don't know what they go for in your area. I would keep looking though, or if you really like that car, get teh price down quite a bit. F-bods seem to be pretty reliable cars that can last quite a while if you treat them right. Good luck!

if you are looking at dealerships, youre going to get ripped off. your best bet is to find someone on one of the forums.

try to get 2000+, better manifolds and stuff. check the window motors, see how fast they go up and down (not that big of a deal, but if theyre slow, try to make a deal with the dealership that they replace them)

i bought my car at a dealership.... 2002, 18k miles, sunset orange metallic, 35th anniv. edition, and i paid i think 12k. originally im pretty sure they were asking 15. so do NOT be afraid to negotiate. car salesmen are jackasses, so you have to play their game. there were times when they would be giving me the whole run-around, i would tell them to go ask the manager a question. while they were talking to him, i would get up and leave.

you should try to find the lowest milage possible, it just makes things easier. i wouldnt buy a car with over 100k... but dont ignore cars with 70-80. if theyve been maintained well, they could be in better shape than a car with 20k.

yeah thats steep for an 00 camaro, i picked mine up for $7800 with 68k, ttops, y87, and new tires... still no major problems 1 year and 12k miles later

I know your looking for black or teal and a manual, but i got one with under 100k on the motor and only 21k on the trans. I was askin 6200 but I'd drop it to 5800 for ya so u can afford a manual trans if u want, i saw a good one on here for 400.

Always check the engine for wet or drip leaks, drippings bad, wet is going to get bad, get under the car and get dirty or ask to take it in to YOUR mechanic. same with the body Look over every inch of it, and the underbody included, check for rust dents whatever if its under 100k miles you should be ok but you never know who beat the **** out of the car before you

Like someone else said leaks into the interior are a problem, make sure the door closes and there is no gaps and CARFAX is a good idea too

and yes thats a lot of money for a v6 you should be able to find a decent one for less than half of that if your gonna spend that much get a v8 they get pretty close to the same mileage and you'll have 100 extra hp right off the bat to work with
