youll need to specify which gears you have, and whether its an auto, since rs cars can be manual or auto 3.42 or 3.23.

he said auto RS, so it's the auto tranny, which I believe only came with 3.42's on the RS model. The manual has 3.23's, IIRC

OMG!! The RS is an appearance package, therefore has nothing to do with gears. Read the door codes to check gears or for y87 package...

so many confused people out there with the whole RS thing.

my dealer rs poster from 96 says that rs 3800 v6 performance package includes the 3.42 gear with limited slip diff, 4 disc brakes, close ratio steering and something else i can't remember( its framed and that side is on the back) so i don't think i have just an appearance package?

let me know how much for that pcm
but i see your in canada so i bet its calibated to kmh/ even though i guess that wouldn't really make a difference

Your dealer is mistaken. The y87 package is what you're describing and the pcm i have is from a y87 car. I bought it off Magnus on this board when he did his v8 swap but it doesn't work in my car because it's from an american car so it would be perfect for you :)

Re: the dealer. Trust me , my wife works at one. Some of them know their sh*t, many don't know their way out of a paper bag. :)

I have an RS and believe me it's appearance only. Y87 is the performance package that you have and my pcm is from.

I own a 97 RS, I know for a fact that info from the dealer is wrong. My car came with 3.08s and open diff

Mine too.

I just did a quick web search and found this... not the best but it clearly indicates the y87 is the performance package available on v6 cars.

I have the 97 brochures for the 97 cars, and it has the RS in it along with all the options. The RS is NOT a performance package.

The poster is either mistyped or you read it wrong because RS's did not come with 3.42s/LSD and such.

ill take it out and try to scan that part of the poster but again mine is from 96 not 97? don't all rs have rear disc brake? i have never seen one without?

Nope, my RS has drums :)
