I've got a Digital HorsePower PowerTuner for sale. $300 bucks plus shipping gets you the cables, a spare PCM, the 100+ page instruction manual, the box, all the cables to hook up with USB or serial ports, and the latest software build. The newset software lets you tune any 3.8 powered vehicle from 97-05.

DHP was the program. they made it for a customer of mine. $400 well worth it that was a 96 camaro 3.8 4l60eComment

The Hypertech is only for 99 or 2000 and newer 3.8's.
Another option is to change over the PCM to a 97 and use Hp tuners. But that is a $500 or $650 program/ hardware, depending if you want the pro version or not. Could be cheaper if someone in your area already has it licenced for the 97 model year.

DHP digitalhorsepowerinc.com only has PCM's Listed on their sight, no tuning software.

Yeah, but then again, you could buy the tuning software and hardware from me since I'm trying to sell it and tune any 3.8 from 97-05.
