  • 99 & up straight throttle body

looking for one, I have a 98 curved and its a pain in the *** to pipe the intake from the lid to the TB. I prefer a straight design.

i believe this means u have to convert to fly by wire also?

u currently have a throttle cable right? i believe tht none of the straight throttle bodies have a cable. they go by computer signal

o well screw that then. I'll stick with what I got and make it work somehow. Currently I have a short ram but with the SS hood I want to go from the lid to the TB with some custom setup. I suppose I could just use a flexible hose. There's so many things about the 98 that are a pain now I wish I bought a 99+

wouldn't the air flow through the flex hose not be as smooth though? That's what I'm worried about...I want to find something thats smooth inside for smooth airflow, or does it really not make much difference? Seems to me the airflow would be a bit disrupted inside the flex hose

Re: 99 & up straight throttle body

. it does significantly slow air flow down.

what you can do is. go to lows or home d-pow and get some smooth hose (its black and its pretty thick.)

i dont know the term for the hose.
but its the same hose they use for te smooth bellows for the ls1's

It does slow air down, but NOT significantly... basically you wouldn't notice the difference

If you can make it work with smoother piping, by all means go for it... but don't think that smooth is your only option, bc like I said, the difference isn't going to be enough for you to notice... the air changing direction has much more effect on it's flow than the texture of the inside of the piping

it's just a rubber coupler. there's a good writeup somewhere around here about it.

I made 370 rwhp with my 98 firebird though the stock TB with Dryer Duct as a intake tube.

Exactly... all those little grooves from flex hose get "filled in" by spinning air... then the air just flows past like the grooves weren't even there... the same thing happens in smooth piping, the vortexes are just much smaller...

a crude drawing I found from one of my freshman engineering classes... lol

maybe I'll try the flex hose and see what happens
