Well, today we went to L.A. to see her cardiologist. This was a very important appointment. It requires all our families to be there. So my parents and her parents showed up for this appointment and my wife's cardiologist spent an hour and half with us discussing my wife's condition and he anwered all the questions we had for him.
OK...In early August her cardiologist did a catherization on her by inserting a tube on her neck and thigh. He then put the dye in her to see her heart and lung and other organs. What he saw was not very good.
Her right lung has no function at all, most of her right arterial located on her neck down to her upper torso are clotted off. He also saw how large her heart has gotten, which stretches from her rib to her spine (and this is only a 2 chamber heart). Her liver is also not looking very good because of pulmonary hypertension and her medication.
The doctor said that her option would be a heart transplant. WHich may improve her condition or not. He also said that a heart and lung transplant is another option as well, but he said from experience that the life expectency is only 7 mo. to 2 years and the quality of life is horrible. The other option is to stay as is and keep talking the 24 medications that she takes daily. But her health will continue to deteorate.
Our families decided that it would be best for her to have a heart transplant. Like I said it's not a gaurantee that she will get better, but atleast it gives us some hope. As of now the doctor doesn't think that the transplant clinic would accept her because of her current condition, esp. with the hypertension in her left lung, the protein she's losing in her body (LPE= Losing Protein Enthorapathy) and the 40lbs of water she is retaining in her abdomen.
You know what SUCKS the most about this news today -- is that today is our 9th year Wedding Anniversary. Eventough I didn't have the money, I went ahead and bought the laptop that's she been wanting to get for a couple of years and never bought it for herself. Life sucks right now.
Pic of my wife's heart. You can see that it stretches from rib to spine. That's huge!!! Our heart size is usually about the same size as our fist.
