  • Maybe a Big 5.7L in my future

So I was talking to one of my neighbors who I really haven't talked to since we moved in here last Nov. He used to be a chevy mechanic for 13 years and said he still has a 5.7L with forged pistons a big @ss cam and everything is built for a big shot of nitrous, motor was in a chevell and just N/A dynoed 500-600 WRHP. It is a carbed engine and was in a wreck which totalled the car but he saved the engine. He sold the heads off it since being a family man with 2 kids now needed the money. But he said it has sat for so long he would redo the bearings and check out everything in the engine before selling it, in which I would buy a smaller cam and heads for him to install. He said the engine isn't going anywhere and I told him if I blow something up with mine with the turbo I might just go ahead and drop a V8 in mine, but we'll see how it goes. He said the cam was so huge with 13.1 compression and still ran 91 oct., it would still idle with the ign. turned off, he had a neg. cutoff switch. Also ran dual fuel pumps and was a low 10 sec. car in the 1/4 mile in the Chevell with street tires. I'm still thinking about it, might make him a offer on it.

No funds for a roller, need a DD, so I'm looking at a 00' 5.3l GMC truck. I might look around on craigs list to see if someone has a $500 F-body, that's about all I could afford, I know there are some $1000 F-bodies I could get a hold of with full interior with 3.8's in them, 95-97 bodies.

He said it ran fine, he built it and hes from AZ so I would trust him , he said he had to retard the timing for the 91 octane so I could see it running in the summer, but most likely unless my cars engine explodes I won't be putting in a V8 , if I did it would be a 02' LS1 which I have already added to my HPtuners.:D

Re: Maybe a Big 5.7L in my future

                I can tune , all- 97 3.8's, 02' LS1's, 00' GMC/Sivlerados 5.3's and 05' 3.8 Buick's. I used up my 4 Lic. so it wouldn't be $400 if I added them later if I didn't upgrade to the PRO version and I'm not locked into any vin #.

                  I like carb engine.

My truck has one and it's so much easier to tune.

Will a V8 with a carb fit under the hood? I thought the carb (and possibly the distributor) sits too high to clear the cowl?

                      With modification, anything is possible.

Im sure it won't be a direct bolt in, but it will bad-arse in the end!

Give me a saw-zall, a welder, a big hammer, some duct tape, a case of beer and a place to crash and we'll git R done

To fit the carbs I would need a foot high air scoop with the carbs hes running on it, their adjustable up to 1300 cfm. Said they were about the size of a fist.

Forget the welder , duct tape and trans-X.

Buy the engine now and once you get situated then buy a roller in the future.

Unless you haven't started the turbo installation I wouldn't put it in the current car.

I have done a bigger radiator, tranny cooler, mounted intercooler and getting ready to put my dual remote oil filters in my car and add the -10 an oil return line adapter to the oil pan coming up. But with some help I'm doing a 02' rack and pinion to change my steering from 16.9 to 14.4 ratio. No money for a roller so I think I will just buy the 00' GMC truck for back up DD and add my turbo since I have everything to install for the turbo, down to every last fitting and bolt. LOL My engine is fully built and I have a set of 65lB injectors to go in also so I might as well turbo my Camaro. Problem with that big 5.7 engine is , its not a LT1 so I don't know if it would even fit thinking about it know. But thanks for the comments guys made me think alittle more on it which is what I needed, because i'm a impulsive buyer when it comes to cars and parts and shopping in general for that matter. But they say stroke victims do have a higher impulsives to buy stuff, I guss when tou loose 25% of your brain function it would have some affect. LOL Thanks again guys and Venom.
