Who lives close to Time Zone borderlines?

I have a question for you...

If you're ~very~ close to a borderline going from Eastern to Central, Central to Mountain, or Mountain to Pacific, is it a different time...like say across the street, across the river, etc? If you go to someone's house and tell them you'll pick them up at 8, is that YOUR time, or theirs??

AND...how do you adjust if you work in a different time zone than the one you live in? Do you leave an hour early/later, or does your job allow the hour difference?

I was watching TV today (spongebob, of all things...and don't ask me why) when that question came-to-mind.

Please be easy if you think this is a dumb question. I've never lived close to a borderline like that before, nor do I know anyone who has.

i live close to indiana, i think theyre an hour behind us for some reason. never really thought about that though lol.

Most of Indiana is Eastern, but parts of northern Indiana around Gary and southern around Evansville is Central.

Its not a time zone but my bro-in-laws farm is on the southside of state line road. His property and a rental house on the property are in alabama, walk out to the drive way in the neighbors driveway across the road its Tennessee, literally. If the people who are in the rental house call theyre neighbor across the street its long distance even though its less than 100 yards.
