Was pulled over tonight on the way to my uncles for having an exhaust that makes "excessive noise."
This is a first in the 3 years it's been on the car...so I see the cheries, pull over, kill the car (so you can't hear the cam idle, and yes, the car is pretty loud...) grab all my documents and wait...she comes over and tells me what im being pulled over for, gets the documents etc, etc...comes back and tells me im getting a warning...cool...I ask what it is about the exhaust that is too loud? she tells me that it is probably missing the filters inside the muffler. (I'm thinking...filters?) So, I tell her I don't quite understand what she means, and if she can explain a bit further (she told me to get it looked at by exhaust shop, so I said I wanted to know what to tell them when I went in)
shes like, well, if I go around back and stick my baton in the pipe, it shouldnt be able to go through...(I try not to laugh) so I ask her show me... we go around back and she sticks the baton in my two tail pipes...shes like...see...my baton goes all the way in, its missing the filters...
STILL trying not to laugh...I get on my knees and look under there, and point to her that the muffler is mounted sideways, and that the two tail pipes (just regular exhaust piping with the tips on the end) are coming from the sides of the muffler to the back...and that her batton is only going into the tail pipes and not the muffler itself...So she tells me that there should be filters in the tail pipes that block anything from going in there ...and that I should have TWO mufflers if I have dual exhaust ...so I told her that was cool, I'll look into it...told her to have a nice night and thanks for the warning.
I was polite and all when asking the questions...I think she maybe confused the muffler and the filter thing, for the filter that is in a cat...some mufflers dont have anything in the middle of them, and just a perforated piece of metal with fiberglass packing, that packs the sides of the muffler itself...
Gave me a good laugh though hahaha...
