I think its more for the players that retired before 1985 when the contracts were much smaller.

These guys gave up their healthy bodies for the game.

Now they are older and have huge medical costs because of all the physical abuse their bodies took.

Most modern players are set for life after the first contract.

            Re: Captain Morgan

Most aren't set for life, the good ones who get the million dollar contracts most definitely are, but the league minimum is somewhere in the 300,000's and the veteran's minimum is in the 500,000's and the average career in the NFL I think is less than 5 years... I don't see anything wrong with a fund to help with medical costs as a result of injuries suffered playing football, but a retirement fund is stupid... but the player's union usually gets what they want so....

my dad is 50 years old and sometimes cant get out of the bed without help cause his back is in such bad shape, but you know what, he goes to work anyways. why? cause he has to, cause there isnt a fund to help him out. he is a friggin hoss when it comes to work, cause thats what you gotta do. he doesnt get help with medical costs...

he too had a healthy body, then he got a job workin at the mill to put food on the table for his two boys, he is my opinion of a mans man, honest, willing and does what he has too and doesnt expect any help.

You're insulting football players back in the days of the first few SB's, when these guys were barely making $20k a year. They would play football during the regular season, and when the season was over, they went right back to work. Hence names like GREEN BAY PACKERS. When that team first started, they were literally meat packers that played football. Alot of these guys, up till the early 70's made **** for money. And Im sorry, but if you're going to sacrifice your body for someone elses entertainment, you DESERVE a retirement fund. Im not talking about these people earning league minimums of $300k+ now, Im talking the guys who have been retired from football for 20+ years who didn't make that kind of money, EVER.

BTW, my father is 54 years old, and gets out of bed just fine. Tool and Die maker for over 35 years of his life, playing with hot steel and diamond cutting wheels. But at the same time, his job is not nearly as difficult as playing professional football. Nothing against your pops, but Im personally not fond of stories that attempt to drudge up my guilt, especially from someone who says he doesn't ask for money all while his sig reads "SOMEONE DONATE MONEY TO ME".

I want to rail each one of them while punching their ribs and making them cry. But they have to keep the boots and bandana's on.
