Well, since I'm going to be tight on income, I thought about buying an f-body cheap to part out. If I chance $1000 to buy a gently wrecked f-body, how much do you guys think I would make?

Here are a couple I looked at.

for the first one: engine/trans should be able to get you $700 i would say, interior, $400 if its in good condition, wheels/tires $400, nd that doesnt include the ton of little stuff people need

I dont know man, it seems kinda risky unless you have a line of ppl already lined up for something.

Also you will prob have to toll it away, do you have a truck or something already?

If I was in your situation I would sit tight and try not to spend any money. However the other side of me feels this could pay off if you find a REALLY good deal but I dont know, still seems risky to me.

Make sure that there is a demand for the parts that you are selling. For instance, very few people buy body parts off of base models. You would make much more money selling Trans Am body parts than Firebird body parts. If you have a Trans Am hatch, a 3.42 posi rear, etc. you will make much more money than you would if you were selling standard v6 parts.

Maybe I dont fully understand your situation,.. but why would you be begging for donations on internet forums, people you don't even know..... Not paying your rent, and getting evicted from your housing, when you have $1,000 to put toward a car, that you could possibly lose more money on.

          I wouldnt risk it.

I would have to agree on this one. Save your money.

I didnt mean to impose that I have a grand laying around, but I thought I'd poke my head in an investment rather than a hole. I'll avoid buying something like that for a while, at least until I have steady income and a home. Just getting feedback, thats all.

yea not a good idea, especially in this economy. You will most likely be sitting on the car for a bit before actually making anything off the part out. The interior and body stuff usually goes quicker than a v6 engine/trans etc. because the interior and body stuff crosses over to the v8s as well.

                    Re: Part out options

I've parted out a couple. I still have most (around 80%) of a 99 Trans Am in my garage. Cost is always a factor, plus towing it, storing it, finding time to work on it, actually working on it. It can be worth it, but is kind of a pain in the ***. Anyone wanna buy a complete LS1 conversion? Engine/trans/wiring harness?

                          Dumbest idea.

Take the grand and invest it. The return will be a hell of a lot quicker.

a purchase involving ANY car, is not an "investment" in the financial definition of the term
