  • my work is in a ton of trouble

for those of you who don't know, i work in a nursing home.

so we had a resident code(actively dying). the nurse who called 911 didn't tell them he was coding. it took 911 30 mins to get here.....and the resident died.

than the idiot nursing supervisor called THE WRONG FAMILY and told them their father died. they called their ENTIRE family to tell them the news. they even made the funeral arragements. the medical exam. came to pick up the body and found that the body was alive and called the family.

30 of the residnets family members showed up her crying and heart broken to find out that he really was alive.

so yeah...theres 2 lawsuits for us

The family says the nursing home discovered the mistake when the funeral director went to get Leonard's body and realized he was still alive.
I don't know why but I pictured the funeral director pushing the gurney to his car with the guy sitting under a sheet all covered up, then sitting up and scaring the **** out of the funeral director haha.

Wow... some people are going to get in trouble for that stuff.

As for nursing homes... My wife works(SLP) in a rehab facility(Place where old people who fall go to the hospital, found not to be able to support themselves at home so they are taken here and live off of medicare until they can, or they go to hospice). It scares me to think what life coudl be like if you are old and don't have much money. Amazing how much she has to fight some of the nurses to just do their job and help people. I can tell its rough on her some days.

Things are getting worse for her since they are cutting medicare/medicaid funding for her work. People aren't getting the help they need.

My wife's facility is pretty rough, we are in Daytona which is one of the capitals of old people in Florida, then her facility is one of the facilities in central, FL which pretty much takes what other facilities turn down. She gets people as far as Gainesville.

She was put in charge of and starting up a Dementia Unit. Its crazy some of the stories we she tells us about what try and force into it that don't have Dementia. She is typical WAAY overworked, but at the same time I think its great for her. She gets overtime, since she is pretty much the only one at her facility other then a little part time stuff. She is getting some great experience. Which is exactly what she needs being just out fo school.

a nursing fac. is one of the hardest places to work. you kill yourself in them...but at the same time when you make a differnt in a life, it's all worth it.

I saw that on the news, but didn't know it was your place.

As soon as I saw it, I said to myself, "well...they're F'-d!".

I'll be hiring ...once I open my own custom paint/body shop :)

nursing supervisor should be fired. The 911 team should be asked "show cause" for showing up 30 minutes later despite it's a code or no. The 911 calling RN should be suspended without pay for 1-4 weeks (whichever indicated by employee book).

                        That's how I see it /\.

whenever we have code blue at work, we just press a button on the wall in our room and within 15 seconds there are Doctors, hospitalist, nurses, orderly shows up! Usually at least 10-20 people within 30 seconds. of course that's in the Hospital ;).

being a nursing home, we can't have alarms going on...or we would have mass heart attacks. that is why we all have to wear pagers. anything happens our normal everday pagers turn to our blue alert
