Anyone know any common defects with these SUVs? Are they pretty reliable? I've never been a big Dodge fan, but if the price is right....found a 2000 Durango in good shape that I'm thinking of looking at, but want to know what to look for specifically with these trucks.

I have one in the yard. My grandmas actually that I drive occasionally(12mpg isn't great). Common defects are the transmissions. They have horrible transmissions. And this isn't just the first time you will read this. All of forums they complain about the tranny. But other than that and horrible gas mileage they ride fantastic. I think they ride better than any vehicle my family owns.

If you're paying more than $2500, you're getting screwed. Dodge still can't make a trans. Really dumb move considering gas is heading back to $4 a gallon. If you're getting a mommy/baby hauler, look into a midsize sedan and save the gas money. You ain't towing, you ain't offroading. Common sense man.

My mom has a '04 with the Hemi. Do it. For a family car its perfect IMO, plenty of room, you can pop out kids constantly and not run out of room. And its better than a minivan. Lol.

Anyways we've had ours for 6 years now and no problems except the usual small maintenance.

Also my mom took it to a quick lube place once to get the oil changed, dudes didn't put any oil back in it after draining it and told her it was done .....she drove 50 miles home and the thing still runs perfect. Its a good thing my dad always checks after she takes it to one of those places.

50 miles with no oil? Maybe they left it low, but empty??? It never would have run for 50 miles...

I'm sure my wife's cavalier went without oil for a couple of hundred miles, not a drop when I went to change it.

                  Convenience for me...

My parents have a 98 that they have had for 9 years now and the only problem they have ever had was the trans went out when my dad was pulling his 35' enclosed trailer (very heavy) back from New York. Other than that its run flawlessly. Its a beast in the snow too...VERY good 4x4 capabilities. It does get horrible gas mileage though (averages about 13 mpg).

EDIT* Never mind the 4x4 stuff, you live in FL :P

isnt it cheaper to just keep the camaro then to sell it and buy a truck?

dodge can build a motor but like every one else said trannys suck and as for defects they have a tendency to tear up front tires rather quick like holy **** less time than my camaro tires last but good tough tanks in every other sense of it. IMO wouldent recomend it if you not gunna use it for what it is tho cause of mpg which mine i had a 360 in it and got 9-11 on a good day but the 318's get 14-16 on a good day

                          as stated... tranny...

also heard they had some electrical issues. Either way they are not reliable.

oh yeah, fuel mileage sucks. Engines aren't known to be too bad but I do have a guy in my classes that had to have a new engine put in and is always complaining about sensor/PCM issues.
