  • Game On!!!

I started training hard and dieting hard again. Just like I did 10 years ago when I was a competitive bodybuilder (drugfree).

I wanted to come back to bodybuilding one more time perhaps, so I could start a fund raising event for my wife who will need it for her heart surgery, which we hope will be soon.

There's a small contest in April 3rd and it's going to be in my town. I couldn't resist. I have to do it. Not only for my wife, but for me too. As you guys know my wife's health has been going down, fast!!! My health has been going down too. I got my blood result earlier this month, and it doesn't look good. My blood pressure was way up there. For once I am out of shape and unhealthy.

I blame my state of mind for this. Because I couldn't/have not control the situation and it has affected my health. Between my wife and I, we can't afford to have 2 unhealthy people. In other words, I don't want my poor health to cost us too.

So far things have been going great. I started Jan. 9th of this month and as of today, which is my 3rd week, I went from weighing 237lbs to 218lbs.

I'm shooting for 190lbs or 185lbs depending on how I look. I may go further down since I don't have the same muscle mass that I did 10 years ago.

I'm not expecting to win this or anything and frankly I don't really care. I just wanted to have something to shoot for and to do something for my wife.

I'll take some pics later on as I start to look better.

I honestly wish for the life of me that I could lose some weight, and gain some muscle and tone back. I have tried everything, can't do it. Im up to 230 again, wanted to be somewhere around teh 210 mark, but more tone. I have no clue how to tone out again....any suggestions??

What kind of workout do you do Wes?

I remember back then how you wanted to gain some weight, but you had problem eating in the morning. Is this still true?

            Re: Game On!!!

If there is one thing that is probably killing me, it isn't that I can't work out correctly, I can't EAT correctly. I don't eat in the mornings, but I eat a HUGE meal consisting of anywhere from 3-5000 calories, twice a day. Now that I have quit smoking, and I haven't smoked for almost 2 months now, its easier to breathe and work out, but I have to get my eating habits fixed.

The only thing Im doing right now is some pushups and sit ups. I need to get muscles working that havent been used in a long time before I start doing ANYTHING with weights. Last thing I need to do right now is injure myself needlessly, so its mainly pushups and sit ups. I would like to be able to swim again. I think my overall goal is to lose the fat I have, and keep right around the 210 mark, be a little more leaned out. Im currently 230.

3-5000 cal. 2x a day then you're eating 10,000 cal. That's a lot of calories. The most calories I've eaten was 3500 cal. Glad to hear that you quit smoking. Are you still drinking a lot of beer. Because one thing I've noticed that a lot of people who do drink, even once in awhile have problems eating in the early morning. Because the empty calories from beer suppresses the appetite. You may even feel sick at the stomach in the morning.

You can supplement your push ups and sit ups with some simple weight set and a bench with leg extension that you can buy at Walmart.

You can do lots of reps just to be safe.

try P90X. I did it for approximately 5 weeks before I tore my ACL playing football this past fall. I lost 20 pounds (185 down to 165) in those 5 weeks and got really toned. It's a program that focuses on toning/weight loss as opposed to gaining mass/muscle. I now do the videos that aren't too hard on my knee while I wait for surgery next month.

The only thing with P90X is that you need a pretty high level of fitness before you get started. They give you the material to figure out if you're ready. A few weeks of jogging/swimming/cycling would probably be enough to get you started though.

I was in the same boat as Mogobs... get the body sculpting bible "express" version... it has a good diet plan in it that doesn't leave you hungry, but you do have to eat smaller meals and eat more often...

P90X is awesome... the first time I started it, I was way too far out of shape, and was sweating profusely by the end of the warm-ups, but after running everyday for a couple weeks, I started again and made it through only skipping a few days... definitely lost weight but the biggest thing is you just feel better

One reason why I don't do the P90X is because I can't do alot of stuff that impacts my knees at all. Jumping, running, **** like that. P90X has some jumping in it from what I can tell, and I can't do that stuff with the knees I have now. Its the reason why I limit myself to swimming. That and Im not really in a situation where I can do things like that, seeing as I have little room in this apartment for whirling around in circles.

Yeah, I hear ya man...I have a full tear of my ACL in my right knee and a partial tear on my left knee.

there is a bit of jumping and stuff on P90X but they show you methods that involve less impact. And if you still really can't do it you can skip any dvds that you really don't like...you don't have to follow it perfectly. With stuff like the yoga you have a lot of opportunity to actually strengthen weak knees though!

Actually strengthening your knees/legs is something I'd recommend too. Since I've been dealing with these knee injuries, I've been doing a lot of strengthening of the surrounding muscles. The muscles, now that they're pretty well developed, are actually supporting my joints and I don't feel it too much anymore.

Swimming and cycling are two great zero to low impact activities though. I picked up a stationary bike that runs quietly and I just get on that while watching tv...it's actually a great feeling to be getting your blood pumping while you're watching your favourite athletes doing the same.

Just about every person I've talked to who have done PX90 have burned out. I was reading and following this girl's blog and by the 9th week all she ever wrote down was how tired she was. Then I read another blog of a guy who was actually in the video with Tony Horton and he too was tired.

This guy that I know did the exercises but didn't follow thru. on the diet. He didn't experience the result. Any exercise you part take in you have to do the diet part. Dieting is the hardest part. Doing the exercises are easy.
