No, but I'd like to see how it goes for you. I keep trying to get my wife to dump the regular home phone line. I think if we add another number for a while and she feels Ok with using this, then we could drop the landline and move the home phone number to this service.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

it's a very hit or miss thing, but i'm glad you're having luck with it.

my secretary used to use it to call clients and set up appointments for me, and got fed up with it and told me to trash it or take it back. just a lot of trouble connecting calls and poor reception --- lots of small problems which weren't good for reliable phone service. i ended up just splicing my office phone line and she would use her cell at home haha.

but like i said, if it's working for you, then more power to ya.

Magicjack is very similar to using VOIP service, as it is actually using internet service to connect a phone call. Problem with VOIP is that its not nearly as reliable as regular phone service in the least. It is EXTREMELY rare to see bell company trunk lines down, its almost commonplace to see internet service down. Another thing about Magicjack is that because it runs off the internet service of your house, its also prone to the same issues of having power to it. Basically, if your power goes down, so does your computer, and so does your phone call, if you don't have proper UPS backup (which generally only lasts 10 minutes anyway). Phone lines stay up even when power goes down, because electric power is generated from the power plants as AC voltage, while phone signal is generally a -48 volt DC charge generated by batteries at the central office of the phone company.

If you're worried about using a phone in an emergency situation where you might not have power for any sustained amount of time, I would stay away from MagicJack. Phone service from AT&T is far more reliable in emergency situations.

You get what you pay for. Disconnects and bad reception but sometimes it works fine. I returned mine but you might have better luck.

well, I've had a couple phone calls w/my honey for 1~3 hrs, and no probs yet. I am using comcast, which at least has a better internet signal than cable signal. not worried about no phone durring power outtages, that's what the cell is for ;)

my home phone is threw vonage. i've used them for 2 years now and never had a single problem with them. the only reason why i have a home phone line is for my home security system. we have it hooked up to a battery powered serge protector incase the power does go out. the power has gone out a few times....and everything ran like normal.

if you think about the whole"power going out thing" just about everyones phones are cordless phones these days. so if the power does go out...those phones are going out anyway.

I have a corded phone. Signal clarity is superior to anything w/o a cord.;)

I've had it for 2 years now and am mostly satisfied. How it works is going to depend on your internet quality and speed. Mine is great 95% of the time. I think it was worth saving $500 a year for.
