[QUOTE=StrtRacer98;960826]You dont get it, at all.
I completely agree. Highway economy driving I got a max of 35mpg.
Typical in city driving I got 25-27mpg
He didnt buy the car for better fuel mileage anyway, and if he did, HA
These 3.8's are outstanding if you drive right and keep up on maintance, even with 65LB injectors cammed I stll get 25-26 MPG city/highway, its all in tunning. Highway I could believe 35 mpg easily for someone to get, also I thought 4 gens. had a crash rating of a 4 or 5, I know it was pretty damm good. I know Radracer or hope he doesn't take these comments personally , just giving input, advice and some humor in a strange way.LOL I do hope everything works out for him and his new family. I'm almost twice his age and don't have a son or daughter of my own which I did want but since getting a divorce , and being older , I know I will never have a child of my own and it does make me sad, everyone I know has had a kid except for me, which my wife cheating on me, after 7 years of marriage(11 years knowing her) I will not marry again. So I wish him the best, finish college though def.

Personally, I think you could find better if you sold both the Camaro and the Accord. But if you can manage to keep both cars, I could see this as not such a bad thing. The exterior looks like it could use a little TLC. Interior-wise, I'd strip that thing down and clean the **** out of it, along with replacing a few parts (carpet, door panel cloth, steering wheel, etc). I'd get that thing as clean as possible before introducing a baby to it. Don't worry about a baby dirtying it up either. Kids tend to not trash out the interior til after their first birthday.
Gas mileage wise... I could see it doing pretty well once you do a good tune up and fix any leaks. Aftermarket and replacement parts are cheap and easy to find for those cars. I knew a few people in high school with higher mileage older Accords and they got decent gas mileage. One or two still have theirs, somehow still running well and not hurting at the gas pump. Hell, even my high mileage mid 90s 5 cylinder Acura gets better gas mileage on a bad day (23mpg in town) than the Camaro gets on a good day (20mpg in town). And I'm certainly not tempted to push that thing through the corners or see how it does in a brief straightaway pull, unlike my Camaro.
But yeah, ditch the rims and find a less intimidating shift knob, along with cleaning and sterilizing every inch of that interior and see how it does. I'm sure with some Purple Power and a pressure sprayer, along with a Mr. Clean scrubber for the panels, that interior could look a lot better.
I paid $500 for this car, and all it needs it a little TLC. Sell the Camaro for say $3K, that's $2500 extra in my pocket. Plus, insurance will be cheaper on this car, and gas mileage will be great. My dad has a 88 Accord I've been driving and I got 28MPG in the city with it and it's an auto, so with this being a 5 spd, it'll probably get a little better. The Camaro gets 19 in the city, so that'll be a nice savings on gas. Like I said, it's not the prettiest car, but it's not the worst thing out there. The interior doesn't look all that bad in person either, and I highly doubt a baby is going to keep it spotless anyways, so...
As for stayin on the throttle, I do it in my Camaro because I've got the power...My dad's Accord I never pushed it hard, so I know I won't push this car hard either. And being it's not a sports car, completely stock, and slow as balls, I won't want to push it hard, throw it into corners, or have a little fun on wet roads...
You guys are calling me retarded and saying I ****ed up. Ya I did, but what are the chances of her getting pregnant while on birth control? Very slim, so I didn't worry about it. Atleast I'm man enough to deal with my mistake, where as most of seem more than willing to drop it off to the first willing family or probably abort it...
2. You're going from your Camaro, where you know the issues, to something wholly unfamiliar. You're asking for problems, and you're going to get them in spades. My astute observation is that maintainence on that POS hasn't been completed since 1998ish. It's gonna nickle and dime you to death.
3. Theoretically, you "saved" $2500, only you haven't actually sold the Camaro, which may not bring $3k. Any "savings" will be eaten into by repairs.
4. You jumped the gun. You have months, usually around 9, until this kid is born. Buying the first cheap POS that came up on craigslist with the title "FREE AIDS" might have not been the best idea.
5. You live in Florida, and bought a car with ****ed up A/C. wow.
6. I wouldn't put anyone I remotely cared about in that deathtrap. So for that part, I'm glad you bought it.
7. Wait until you get a job and can afford something that doesn't have jizz stains from 1994 and flat tires.
Simply put, I don't think that this Honda is going to be worth it. You're going to spend more money on repairs than you would on the Camaro, especially when comparing a 3.8l to a Honda; its one of few engines GM actually did a little better. I have 158k on mine, and Im getting to the point to where I have to replace the water pump on it, which is cheap and easy. Other than that and my 14 year old Interstate battery I just replaced (I'll NEVER buy any other battery in my life again), I have have few problems with my car other than the ones that have been going on since I got it and fixed it back up. I have probably spent $1500 in either maintenance and aftermarket parts, which include some ceramic coated Pacesetters, ARP head studs, a K&N filter, and some preventative odds and ends. Thats in a 4 year span. I think I have made out like a bandit with a car that is damn near indestructible, and its a car that has been to construction job sites, driven in the worst Chicago weather can toss at it, and still gets 30+ mph highway.
I dont think you're going to get $3k for a 97, unless it has under 75k miles. I think you've broke even in the meantime, and will be in the hole down the road.

Again, I know the P/O of this car. His wife drove it to school every day for 4 years without an issue; maintenance has been done motor wise. Car has 170K 98% of which are highway miles. Like I said, my dad has an Accord, and the only problems he's had with it was the valve cover gasket needed replacing; a $20 gasket and 1/2 hour of work... Don't know where you guys get your info, but I've always been told Hondas are reliable cars, and I've seen them run forever... As for A/C, none of my cars have/had A/C. I was born in this heat, I've lived in this heat, and I'll probably die in this heat; I don't need no stinking A/C :P. Although I probably will throw in a new compressor for the kid and g/f :P. And Honda parts seem relatively cheap, so... And the car was never listed online. P/O told me about it at the store, told him I might be interested and went from there. KBB for the car is around $1500, so worst comes to worst I turn around and sell the car and make a few hundred profit...

Who cares at least you've got yourself a set of wheels.
All I ask is that you don't start modding it. PLEASE!. I don't care what anyone says just keep it as a daily driver. I've seen so many people take those accords and dump in some money to make them fast and its like WTF?!?.
I'm looking into buying an accord of those years as a daily since there is many of them around here locally, my buddy had a wagon and that thing has well over 250k on it and still running strong. The common issues I've heard is the axle's do go out.
Drive it for a couple of years, Invest that $2500 or whatever you get from the sale and continue to invest in the years to come.

I'm not calling you retarded. In fact my hats goes off to you for taking responsiblitly for what you've done. Don't look at it as a **** up.
