    Re: New car

I agree with the fact that you have 9 months before the baby comes, and don't need to jump at buying a car like this this early. A lot of things could happen between now and then, I would of kept driving the camaro until then, or atleast very close to then.

      1. You overpaid, by roughly $499.98

      2. You're going from your Camaro, where you know the issues, to something wholly unfamiliar. You're asking for problems, and you're going to get them in spades. My astute observation is that maintainence on that POS hasn't been completed since 1998ish. It's gonna nickle and dime you to death.

      3. Theoretically, you "saved" $2500, only you haven't actually sold the Camaro, which may not bring $3k. Any "savings" will be eaten into by repairs.

      4. You jumped the gun. You have months, usually around 9, until this kid is born. Buying the first cheap POS that came up on craigslist with the title "FREE AIDS" might have not been the best idea.

      5. You live in Florida, and bought a car with ****ed up A/C. wow.

      6. I wouldn't put anyone I remotely cared about in that deathtrap. So for that part, I'm glad you bought it.

      7. Wait until you get a job and can afford something that doesn't have jizz stains from 1994 and flat tires.

      Really. Come on man.
HOLY FAWK! you have no idea how hard I am laughing

      So, so true.

170k all highway, baby. Are you delusional? It's a 20 year old car, I highly doubt your percentage estimate is accurate.

Honda's can be very reliable. Mine runs great. Mine isn't a 20 year old car with 170k miles, driven by someone who CLEARLY didn't care about it. Outward appearance is a good gauge of how the car has been treated. This heap is about as clean as a third trimester coathanger abortion. I'd venture a guess that your dad actually maintains his. And as such, you should have approached him about purchasing his before this claptrap.

You just made my point. You bought it as a better alternative to your Camaro for hauling your girlfriend and baby. Oh, lol, this made me chortle. Have you looked at how much a compressor is for this POS? It's around $300!!!! 60% of the sale price of the car. You are legitimately a special ed candidate if you put a $300 part in a $500 car. This of course is just you assuming the compressor is the problem, never mind the evap, receiver/drier, or any of the other components. You would be hard pressed to get the a/c working for under $500. I'd place a wager on that.

Wow, this guy saw you coming. KBB isn't in the business of buying cars, they are in the business of selling pricing guides and advertising space. If you actually find someone dumber than you that wants to give you .01 more than you paid for that car, take it and run.

Honestly, who gets upside down in a $500 car?

P/O is a cool guy, and just threw it out there he was selling. He was about to list it on craigslist but I told him I wanted it. He said if I ever have problems with it, to let him know... I know where he lives, know where he works, and have his house, cell, and wife's cell #...

Maybe my estimate is off, but most of the miles are highway; they're the 2nd owner of the car, and she drove it roughly 100 miles round trip on the interstate 5 days a week... I'm sure they got groceries and stuff in it too, but most of the miles are from her going to school. Plus, it was a lady who drove it, so I know it hasn't been beaten to hell...

So the interior isn't spotless. I don't give a **** about the inside of my car, but I take care of it... As for paint/body, it's in better condition than my dad's Accord... And BTW, he said if I didn't buy this car, he would and then sell his other Honda.

I'm not an idiot, do some more research. How much are you willing to bet I can't get the A/C working for under $500? I could use some spare cash...

I don't know about your area, but here everyone seems to go by KBB...

so, your willing to put up to $500 into a $5 car that you paid $500 for to make the a/c work?

Sorry man but KBB is total BS. Its only worthwhile if its a newer car.

BTW; Check the heater hoses for any leaks... Seems to happen on these...

Matt, where the hell you get your cars so cheap? :D

In FL, at least in my area. If it runs, it wont cost less than 500. I sold a van that had no windows (at least not intact), blown engine and no trans, and shotgun holes in it for 360 to the local JYard... Not the best example but you get the point, he paid a good price.

No doubt that there is a market for such cars. I've made good money flipping them, and still do when I have some free time.

However, the issue on the table is the financial prowess of RadRacer, or lack thereof. Why this is a good idea, I haven't the slightest clue. Everyone can clearly see the condition of the car, and a list of 'needs'.

Personally, I'd work night and day until my fingers were bloody stumps so my family wouldn't have to ride in that POS. Maybe it's just me, and I care too much about the people close to me.

Guess I don't. What's soooooo cool about living at home, being unemployed, having a pregnant girlfriend and a crappy car? It's bad when people in Haiti have a better life than you.

And you expect to make money on it if you wanted to? I just don't see how. Best advice I have seen has some from Pace. Should have sold both cars, and gotten something much newer/cleaner/reliable. I think you made a hasty decision into buying a crap car due to the situation you were in, trying desperately to look like a responsible soon-to-be parent.

                            1. If everyone went off KBB around there, you wouldn't have bought the car for $500, you would have bought it for $1500. Since you bought it for $500, its safe to assume they weren't looking at KBB, hence not EVERYONE looks at KBB.

                            2. I hate kids, I have little love for them. I think their parents have issues to love something that much, and to be that involved with them. That being said, even I consider calling child services if some infant was placed in that filthy bucket of ****. You may not care what the interior looks like, but others around you will. You get the wrong person looking at the interior of your car, like some crazed over-involved parent, and they see how filthy that car is, and you better believe that they will put 2 and 2 together and make the assumption your child lives in such an atmosphere as well.

                            3. I have a good friend of mine that has a 98 Civic, well over 150k on the odometer. He hasn't have major issues, but when he does, the parts ARE NOT CHEAP. Preventative maintenance is not at all expensive; a tune up would cost him just a little over $100 in parts, but a starter on this car is in excess of $200 new, a water pump is around $60 and a PAIN to get to, and an alternator in the $150 range new. I can get alot of these parts for $30-$60 cheaper for an Fbody.
