Don't be dumb. They are POS engines. The only acceptable use for a 305 is as a boat anchor. www.car-parts.com find a decent 5.3, out of a 1999-2010 Chevy truck, and actually have room to grow, rather than throw parts at a worthless pile.

You'd probably be better off swapping in a 350 or 5.3. But if you really want to stick with the 305, then look at this.

Funny thing... I've heard many of the same things directed at the 3.8. Yet look at what potential they have, even with such limited head design.

ZZP does sell aluminum heads for the 3.8......

And better flowing Vortec heads bolt right into a 305. ;)

Even though the aluminum ZZP heads are an improvement, the head casting is still not a very good design. But definitely a step up from stock.

And a billion other LSx heads bolt on to the 5.3..... I'll just say, that it's always best to have a clear plan in mind when modding. Set a goal, and attack.

I agree. But he already said he wants to stick with what he has.

Isn't there stroker kits for those 305's

After owning 3 of them I stay clear of them. Good Luck, hopefully you can do something better than what I had.

which is why i am setting a clear goal: build a 305. Enough said.

they make a stroker kit. it's like $600. But i figured i would work on exhaust and top end first. I can't afford both! It makes it a 335. Looks awesome!

Well how far are you wanting to go with this? First thing I say is get headers and a non-drop open air element (not sure if your TBI has a riser).

                      Heres some fun http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tb...check-out.html

well i would want to start with an open element and headers and exhaust. And i forgot to mention it is carb'd. sorry. Freshly rebuilt quadrajet. But aside from that I think the 305's are all basicly the same except for different head castings and whatnot.

This was my point. If you just want to put on an air cleaner and headers, then keep the 305. If you actually want to make over 200hp, go another route.

305's are easy to build, very easy. If youve never built a motor the 305 is a good one to start on.
Parts are cheap, and very easy to find.

For the little bit of extra money, id sell your 305 and pick up a 350.

Ive got a mild built 355 im trying to sell right now for only 700, and its a very nice motor. So they are cheap.

Id have to say anything major thats worth you while would be to convert to TBI or better intake and carb (once your breathing better)... And heads... Then you could have some fun.
