That would be great if there was actually an NHL on tv here... lol... I only get to watch when I'm in Pittsburgh... I can watch the Bluejackets, usually, but aside from Nash, they're a pretty boring team to watch...

Letzride, did you hear any of the TV numbers from the game? They just said on ESPN that the game drew 27 million viewers in Canada... don't you guys only have a population of 33 million?! if those numbers are right, that's just insane... I think the game drew 25 million in the U.S., which is the highest rated Hockey game since 1980... aside from the NFL, the game was rated 2nd highest this year so far, 2nd only to the BCS Nat'l championship game... just more to show that if the NHL didn't have such an embarassingly bad TV contract, they might actually get some TV ratings in the U.S.

also the game drew higher ratings than every world series since 2004, and every NBA Finals or Final Four games since 1998

Its just NOT going to touch football numbers though. TV ratings for football reign king in this country.

Oh by far, I didn't see the actual numbers, but I would bet that almost every NFL playoff game had higher numbers than the hockey game... it definitely ranks higher on my tv... lol

I thought we had more then 33 million people, but not according to google lol.

Those numbers don't suprise me...this is a hockey country, it's our sport, why wouldnt 82% of the population be watching it?

Im not sure how T.V ratings even work, but I know alot of people who congregated at peoples houses or went to bars for the game, so not sure how that impacts the T.V rating any since I don't think those people get counted?

Anyways, this is why most of canada absolutly HATES Gary Bettman...we've been trying to get more hockey teams over here forever and he finds every excuse to not let us get one because he wants all american teams. WE have the biggest market over here. Hamilton wanted to buy Phoneix...they are hugely in debt, and the guy from Hamilton (I forget his name) made the LARGEST bid on the damn team, but bettman refused to let it go here....it even went to court and we still lost.

The sad part is we will probably never have another Canadian team over here for a long time, but the fan base and support is just what some of these teams need.

The only football we really have over here is the Argo's in the CFL lol...they're okay....

                  Re: 2010 Olympics

I wouldn't have a problem with more canadian NHL teams, but I still think that the reason why there aren't better ratings in the U.S. for NHL is bc it's never on nationally, there are a ton of hockey fans here, I've never been to a game that wasn't a packed house, and NHL fans are some of the smartest in all of sports when it comes to their knowledge of the game and the role of a fan... They just need to be on TV more, there's usually a few games on Sunday on NBC, but it seems like it's always the same teams... Detroit, Chicago etc...

                    Re: 2010 Olympics

depends on the city, I hear the pittsburgh games are pretty empty...my cousin went do to Atl a few weeks ago to check out one of the Universitys for a hockey scholarship he was offered...I think he said they saw an Thrasers game for 10$ each him and his dad... Over here you cant get a ticket to the game for less then 80$ I don't think...My cousin said they moved up to the front row at the start of the second because there was so few people there lol...over here platinum (glass seats) sell for over 400$ a seat...and there is no way you'll ever even come close to moving up there between periods...we're always close to being sold out/are sold out.

Every game I've ever been to at the igloo has been sold out, and every time I've been to a CBJ game it's been packed... maybe my experience is just limited, but I've never been to a game that hasn't been a packed house and have never paid less than $30 for a ticket, and never less than $60 in Pittsburgh... but obviously it does vary by city, even Dayton Bombers games were pretty packed last year when the Bluejackets were doing well...
