Well, I test drove a modified, 6 speed '97 camaro SS today. I have been ruined...I can't afford it but the test drive cost me nothing, or did it?
Brutal power and pull when power shifting...the awesome exhaust note when mashing the gas and letting off the gas...the super easy and willing burnouts...the thought that I wouldn't be able to keep my license with a car like this.
I test drove an '06 GTO (auto trans) back in March of '07, and I put a For Sale sign on my camaro a few days later. I couldn't bring myself to put anymore money into my V6 after that.
A few weeks later I bought an '06 Goat with a manual trans, and I've been happy ever since. I DO miss my t-tops though.
I drove my friend's Corvette a little while ago... I know how you feel... That's why any money I'm putting to this car is now for appearance mainly... I'll still keep this car, but man... what I would do for that kind of power everyday... lol
Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..

just reminded me of the 97 SS I almost owned a few years ago... was for sale on eBay but was only a few miles from here... I went and looked at, they wouldn't let me drive bc no insurance, but I got to hear it run and see it in person, and then someone from Virginia outbid me at the very last second and bought it sight-unseen... How different things would be for me today if I'd won that auction... lol

X2, I was putting down more than 288 WRHP and 330 TQ with my Powerdyne, cam all the suspension mods, didn't have it dynoed after the 928 rebuild but I believe it was at least 300 wrhp and over 330 TQ and had my M5 at the time with a Spec 3+ until 3rd gear exploded, thats alittle more power than a stock 97' Camaro SS. Now will be a turbo in the next few weeks and hope to dyno 400+ WRHP.

don't get discouraged with your lack of cylinders fellas, it should be an inspiration to drive a v8 and want more out of yours. i can hop behind the wheel of my '00 ls1 anytime i want, but even when i do, i dont let it discourage me from the v6 --- it makes me hungrier.
i have a deal with my old man that we wont start building up the z28 until i can make the 3.8 as fast --- and the more and more i'm working on her, the more he's starting to believe it's possible. i should be pretty close with full top end build and stage 3 h/c, and as soon as i reach it, we'll make the ls1 nasty and i'll just have to give it some competition with a turbo or something :D

Not to be an *** but saying you can hop behind the wheel of your ls1 anytime and its your dads ls1 is kinda lame. You own a v6 camaro. Be proud of that, don't claim your dads car as yours. Unless its yours then muh bad. But it seems like its your dads.

Theres no replacement for displacement. I could drop 4 or 5 grand into my 98 v6 firebird and make it fast. But it still wont be as fast as my 01 z28. These v6's just arn't worth it really (when you have a day to day comparison like I do). I drive my 6 banger to and from work everyday and love it. But it will never replace my 12.01@112mph drag camaro plan and simple. If you can't afford both, I would sell the 99 and jump on a LS1. If you can afford both, keep your 99 and buy another one :naughty:

I said my dad wants to work on it with me, like a father-son thing because he's about to retire and i'm working on the v6 right now. not that it's any of your concern, but he had a '69 back before i came along and always wanted to work on another camaro. i'm not some kid surfing the internet and living on his parents dime here, i'm educated and have a career, have my own vehicles, and use my own time and money to work on my cars --- don't put words in my mouth. yes, my ls1, and yes, your bad.

Ummm. Clearly your a little upset with my post. I wasn't shooting for that at all. I was just trying to understand whether or not it was actually yours. You said it was yours, then you said it was your dads. Its all good either way, I'm just some guy on the internet trying to understand some other persons post thats all. But ya know, if you want to get all hot and bothered from someone trying to understand what you said its all good. ;) I'm just the guy thats been on this website 2 years longer than you :burn: Also i clearly said you should be proud of what you own (I would!
