That Corvette was worth about as much as the cheap Kmart cookware it was recycled into.

Just as Bird of Prey said, it would be valuable, if there already wasnt a ton of them sitting in the junkyards now from moron kids who thought it was fast and wrapped it around a telephone pole. And you simply can't polish a turd.
do you realize you just called a vette engine a turd? :spank:

that car was not a turd, it was a vette, you know a high performance car. it was not in a hopeless condition, and there are plenty types of cars that have been wrapped around trees.... namely V6 F-BODYS!!!

there are plenty of people, including me, that would have loved to have had that car or just the motor. there was no need to destroy it just because obama thought it would be a good idea to pay the unions and american car makers (which failed because everyone bought Toyotas)

if destroying that car doesnt bother you, go do it to your car, there are plenty more in the junk yard that have been wrapped around the tree by some kid anyways....

Yes, I called a vette engine a turd, because that is exactly what it is, a turd. That engine couldn't begin to compete with anything in the last 12 years, especially nothing in the last 6. I have no clue what you want that engine for. Was it even an LTx engine?

BTW, it wasn't your vette to do what you wanted with it. If the owner wanted to turn it into a BBQ smoker, he can. If he wanted to hit things with it, he can. He did what he wanted with it, who are you to judge?

Rebuilt that engine would be fine. GEN 1 Chevy v-8s are nothing to make fun of, they have tons of potential, that one there would be a good core for a 500hp buildup.

GEN1 SBC's are a dime a dozen. Being that it was out of a Vette, doesn't really make it any more useful than one out of a Silverado of the same era. It boils down to dollars and sense, the owner believed the $4500 from the goverment was more than he would get elsewhere, and thus we find ourselves here.

It's not about whether or not it was my car... my money helped pay to destroy it... and the condition or type of car is irrelevant, obviously a Corvette enthusiast would frown upon this more so than someone who hates Corvettes, but the make, model, year, engine, and condition are irrelevant... it's the simple fact that something was purposefully devalued by our government... there's no way to spin this so that it makes sense...
Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
            Custom interior...

agreed. i understand that that man can decide what to do with his car. i dont blame him for trading it in. i fault the government for destroying a motor that was still running. someone could have used the engine or the car, it doesnt make sense to destroy it.... even if it was a civic, someone could still use it, why destroy it?

BTW it had a chevy 350 so im sure it would produce some power with a little work, after all it wouldnt take much to beat my 15 year old (design) 200 hp v6

yea, if a car was traded in that was worth less than it's weight in steel, then go for it, destroy it... but the value of that car was obviously significantly higher before they ran the acid through it...

The problem is, only running cars were accepted through c4c... if it wasn't running/driveable it didn't qualify for the program...

I don't think the Govt devalued that car nearly as bad as the previous owner. You're putting value on it where in my opinion there was no value to be had. I think you're acting like venom and putting value on something simply because of the name.

Now Venom, you say someone could have USED the vette (car or engine). What PRACTICAL use is there for a Corvette, other than make the owner feel like his C*** got larger. If thats the type of self esteem booster you need, I feel sorry for ya, and Im sure we can find you a vette somewhere.

                    very funny.

and if im not mistaken it can take them from point a to point b. it might not be the most cost effective method. but again more than just vettes were destroyed, more practical cars (4 door 4 bangers)

Who are you to tell me what kind of car I need? and I explicitly said in my post that the make and model were irrelevant...

So you're saying that a Vette in running condition is worth the same amount as a Vette that's had its engine destroyed?

This is what I meant with the whole thing about common sense

I don't care about other cars. Im talking about this vette here. You have been fighting a point about THIS vette, and me and Bird of Prey have told you about THIS vette. Its WORTHLESS. What the Govt did to the rest of the cars is of no consequence to me.

no, im talking about cash for clunkers in general. dont turn it into "your talking about this im talking about that"

and the point remains the gov't devalued the car even further for no reason. it makes no sense. it was worth more with a good motor. they could have sold it to a salvage yard and recovered more money that way but no they killed it.

clearly common sense escapes some people, so i am done here.... tmill i would suggest just not wasting anymore time on this hopeless soul

Oh man, that breaks my heart.

At one point in my life I wanted to own a Vette exactly like that.

Makes the holy spirit in me cry out.
