Peruvian gets 2nd diploma, free insurance and free lunch!

So this family from Peru comes into our school system and requests that their son who already has a high school diploma from Peru be enrolled in school so that he can obtain a US diploma. Our guidance supervisor says no to this, but the board attorney eventually says that this boy cannot be "denied an education". So he is enrolled. The parents then go to the school nurse and ask for vaccine updates. She tells them that she needs to see a doctor's list of previous vaccinations and they show her a "checklist" that is unacceptable. She then tells them, they need to go to a family doctor to get the updated vaccines. They tell her they have NO insurance. So she says "oh, I know where you can get FREE insurance" and gives them the info. Then on the way out the door, the mother says: "Oh, and do you have FREE LUNCH here too? So the school nurse says "oh, we certainly do!".

This "new" already graduated student, who seeks another diploma (this time from the US) and free lunch will cost the taxpayers at least $10,000 to educate. (Not counting free lunch). And this is at a time when there are going to be some steep budget cuts being made and the laying off of staff, programs, aides, extracurricular activities, etc. Unbelievable.

It cost each taxpayer of the country 6/1000ths of a penny each to teach this individual, you wanna collect your money too? I have some corroded pennies in my car, but I want change. As an educator yourself Im ashamed you would be that pissed off for someone wanting a better education. I guess you do it for the paycheck rather than the love of the profession.

that's a major problem here in S. Calif. too. Where these kids who gets free lunch are not even eating them. They just take the milk and toss the rest in the trash. I see it all the time. They get free transportation too. Well S. Calif. is changing now since it's close to being bankrupt. This won't be a case anymore by the end of this year.

I guess it's different now. When I was a kid living poor and in a poor neighborhood I got up early prepared my lunch, walked 2 miles to the nearest bus station and paid .65 cent to go to school. I did this from elementary to HS. My dad only gives me $10.00 a week and I used that money to pay for the bus fares. Whatever is left by the end of the week I used it to buy my comics :D

I think the point being made is there is more then just one person doing this...stuff similar to this is growing in numbers, and it all adds up in the end.

Now, I don't really see a problem with this example, but I know where shirl is coming from...Ive seen/heard lots of people coming here from other countries and bleeding the system dry on taxpayers dime. Its a problem over here to.

When one person does it its not a big deal, like you said, it costs taxpayers pennies...but it is alot more then one person doing it.

And another thing I'll add, if you've ever realized these people that come from other countries that are out to screw the system, they know every flipping loop hole in legislation that will protect them or make them immune from not being able to screw it anymore. Just like if you notice the really lazy people that you work with can never get fired...laziest flippin workers but everytime they are fired they are brought back, because they know every law, every piece of legislation, and every loop hole like it is the back of there hand.

Coupons from the Sunday paper have 1/20th of a cent in cash value, and yet they are more valuable then the amount of money you had to chip in to pay for this kids education. If you're going to complain about money yet again, I better see pics of you taking those coupons in to get their cash value from the stores they come from.

If they have a dipolma, then just let them take a GED test and be done. No going 4 years of high school. When I was in high school I never saw free lunches, it cost so much for whatever you food you got. But I never ate there since I could bike ride to my Grandma's and eat there 10 mins. away, or bring my lunch. It was like $5 to eat lunch and we never got a allowance , so until my 2nd year when i got a job baging groceries and riding my 10 speed to school and work I was finally able to eat at school if I wanted and bought a car over my sophmore year and paid $98 for a 83' Cavalier that had a knock in the engine and my Dad and I rebuilt it over the summer. I tell you what though , I think kids should ride a bike to school/work if within a certain distance ,it got me into shape quick. I was in really good shape only after a year of riding the bike and working 20 hours a week while in school and 40 hours a week summer time. Back to the topic , if illegals come over here they shouldn't get anything except go back home, but if they do it the legal way and become a U.S. Citizen and learn english and some of our history then thats the way to go. But the Gov. still needs to control the speeding and how many legal people they let into the U.S. esp. if their going to be getting finanical help from the Gov.

I do, as well as many different sources of media. Newspaper, internet, TV. Always have. You think I would go out on a limb and ***** about some of this stuff if I didn't properly inform myself first?

But yes, I still read the newspaper, Chicago Sun-Times to be exact. On occasion I will pick up a USA Today or a Wall Street Journal, but the WSJ is damned expensive.

Now, if this Peruvian family has gone thru the legal channels to either become a citizen or in the process of becoming one, there isn't a person in this country that can deny him a proper education.

The Chicago Tribune, the BIG chicago paper, the one that owns the Cubs, is suffering terribly. The Sun-times isn't doing too bad, but like you said, they're not doing well.

Info can be had on the internet now, so newspapers are becoming a thing of the past, but there is still use for them.
