my best bud has a '98 firebird ls1, same yr as my camaro w/ the 3.8, he likes to kid me about mine having the "wrong" engine in it, that was, until i took him on a mountain road ride thru some vicious corners, ...did i mention his suspension/brakes are "stock?" ...mine arent! ...that shut him up! then we lined up his firebird against my '71 chevy & i shut him up again, by about 5 car lengths-lol! but i have to say, the camaro is much more FUN to drive than my ol '71, & aint that what its all about...enjoying the driving experiance & having fun!?! I dont get asked "why didnt you get a v8", nearly as much as I get asked, "is it a stick" and most people who dont know cars the v8s are 5 speeds, so i just say "yup sure is"

I've heard it a lot. Even while I was doing the build I got alot of questions as to "WHY!?"

I just told them the engine is nigh bullet proof, and I am doing the modding as a learning experience on many fronts. I also want to do something different but I'm not in any way expecting record breaking performance.

i hear that sometimes,but it dosnt bother me.but usually people just say its a nice looking ride,and ask what car it is.
anyway,im happy with my -92 v6 firebird. i had 87 trans am too with the 5 liter tpi engine with manual transmission.it even had a digital dashboard. it was good car,but i sold it. one of the reason was the manual tranny,it was fun to drive at first,but over time i just got tired of it,with the manual,it felt like driving like a truck. i still drive it sometimes,my dad was the one who bought it from me. maybe i get a 91 or 92 gta someday,but i dont want to sell my v6 firebird.

wait, what? v8's do not only come in manual...and I am pretty sure they are 6 speeds for the manual trans' in them.

Anyways, I get asked that question more then I get asked why not a v8 as well...I tell them I'm a stalled auto, and they go awww...why???? ...um, because I got a stalled auto? "you gotta get stick man"....

My one friend used the term "autotragic". I just showed my "new" 98 'bird to my other friend who drives a near-stock 2000 civic... he sounded a little disappointed when I said "V6 auto." He didn't even want to look at it up close. I just felt like saying "Ahhhh! But you drive a-.... NEVERMIND."

I guess I just gotta accept that even if my V6 ran 10's by some miracle most people would still look down their nose at it.

your engine doesnt generate enough torque until a certain rpm to get the car moving. so if you want a better launch, you get a higher stall for your transmission. read about it in the trans section :) and i think i explained that correctly

Search keywords "torque converter". You'll learn about how to make that auto a little more fun.

Read my Stall sticky in the transmission/drivetrain section and your jaw will drop.

Like I said, people ask what trans I got and I say stalled auto...it goes right over everyones head...most people don't know what a stall is...I will tell you it is 1000x better then an manual...and hell ya does it make driving fun :stp:
