What Car to Buy for a 16 year old for under $6,000?
What Car to Buy for a 16 year old for under $6,000?
Alrighty guys, our 1998 Toyota Camry with 155,000 miles on it, finally threw a rod and the car is done for good. It was a solid car and we never ever had any major issues with it until now lol. Now im in charge of finding a car for my brother to use, heres the criteria:
Re: What Car to Buy for a 16 year old for under $6,000?
Look for a mid to late 90s Subaru Impreza or Legacy sedan. Both can be found in either fwd or awd versions and are cheap enough. Finding one with under 115k might be the worst part, but those cars can stand some abuse. Gas mileage isn't too bad with the na 2.2 or 2.5 motors, and parts usually are easy enough to find at a reasonable price.

Heck, my Buick was only 2500 with just about every option a new luxury car has, plus a supercharged 3800. LeSabres are Park Avenues are cheap because people think of them as old man cars (which they are) but you can get a whole ton of car for 6k when you look at Buicks and Lincolns. Most are very reliable, FWD, and decent on gas.
Re: What Car to Buy for a 16 year old for under $6,000?
I'd find the best possible car for $2k, and save the other $4k for when he has some seat time. $6k, gtp, impala, monte carlo, plenty of all those around.
Re: What Car to Buy for a 16 year old for under $6,000?
Well I'd say v6 f-body. Duh. :p
But if it must be fwd or awd then I'm going to go ahead and say Ford Focus. Both my older sister and younger brother had versions of them. Sister had the sedan version with the 2.4 and 5-speed, and Brother had the Zx3 with 2.2 and 5-speed. Both were really reliable cars and drove well in all the conditions that Wyoming can throw at people from 2 feet of snow and 0* to nice and sunny and 100*. Not a single major issue with either.

Just have the engine rebuilt and be done. maybe $2000 if that, if you find a good garage.
