I had a friend run a scan on my car this afternoon and it was giving oxygen sensor codes. He suggested replacing two of them and then going from there.. I don't know much about this topic, any advice?
You're going to need an 02 sensor socket, makes the job much easier since you're in a confined space. If you have to use an open ended/box wrench, go from the bottom. Replacing 02's is not very difficult on 00+ cars. Be careful with the connector, it's a regular weatherpac, but it has a plastic loop to keep it connected.
Thanks everyone for the information. I just picked up the O2 sensors and a WIX fuel filter and replacing everything saturday. Hopefully I will get results and update on my progress. Thanks, Joe
1. Takes more fuel to start an engine than to idle. Just put it in neutral.
2. Post CAT O2 sensors DO effect your A/F. Why would they even put them there if they did nothing? yes, they effect less, but they are still part of the algorithm.
3. O2 sensors are considered a consumable item, because of the environment in which they operate in, you can't expect them to last forever. So, it doesn't hurt to change them, but you really should see what they are doing first.
I'd say a good half of o2 sensor codes are thrown because of something entirely unrelated physically.
I'd say clean your throttle plate, and get a shop to do an injector clean.

The only reason there is a post-cat O2 is to tell the PCM if the catalytic converter is working properly. They don't affect A/F.
With the warmer weather hitting the midwest in the past few weeks, I have managed to boost my fuel economy from 22 to mid 23 MPG's. I drive the Camaro carefully just as I would with my Buick Century. As for shutting off the car and starting it up at every light, that would consume more fuel than simply allowing the car to idle.
I am stil receiving the same O2 sensor codes. My wife will be at work all day tomorrow and I'm spending the day working on my car. I am replacing all 4 sensors.
With my bolt-on 02 Camaro, 3.42 gears, driving ~75mph on the highway, I can see 28-29mpg. With city driving I get like 22-23 I think.
My Volvo has a feature that tells you what gas mileage you're getting, and you can isolate it to specific times. Its harder to measure in the Camaro...
