  • GM Parts Direct shipping prices

So I went on gmpartsdirect.com to get a couple new fuel pressure lines that run around the intake plenum. I type in the part numbers, and they're only like $3 a piece each, so I add them to my cart, and add a few other little odds and ends that I need, nothing more than $4-5 a piece... I click on the shopping cart and my total is like $145!!! The shipping on each of the fuel lines I need were $46 a piece!!!

anyone have a clue why this is? I'm obviously not going to buy them for that price, but why in the world do they cost that much to ship? They're each no more than a foot or two long and can't weigh more than a few ounces... Are they shipping them from China? (although I wouldn't be surprised... lol)

Thats where they make their money, it got you to fill your shopping cart with everything you wanted didn't it? Some people don't even look at the shipping before they buy. Ebay guys do it too.

I buy off of there all the time, and sometimes the shipping is a little higher than I'd like, but this is extreme... I can see them upping their shipping prices a little bit to make money, but why would anyone pay that much to ship a foot of 1/4" tubing, unless, like you said, they simply didn't pay attention, but if I clicked pay and then at any point noticed that I was charged that much I would raise hell and never EVER buy from them again if they didn't fix it...

I e-mailed them for an explanation. I just wonder if that price is some sort of default shipping charge or something.

Their always high on shipping, I ordered some plastic pieces once and they were $6 and shipping was 19.99 , but you have to look at quanity with them , sometimes they have them in bulk so your buying like 10 of them instead of the 1 or 2 you want. So I ususally buy from Rock Auto or ebay or go down to the dealership that still gives me 15% off.

i deal with the shipping rates for the company i work for. the only reason it would be $45 to ship, is if it went LTL (less than truckload, aka, back of a tractor trailer) and not some small parcel shipping (aka, UPS ground, or in other words, the big brown truck). it would ship LTL if the size or weight were too much for UPS to handle. and even then, LTL wouldnt charge by teh piece, they would charge you by weight or a minimum charge (which this would fall under). anything much over $60 or so is a rip of, assuming these lines were too big for UPS. I'd definitely call and ask them to explain that charge, and detail that its not feasible to purchase these parts from them, at that cost.

Re: GM Parts Direct shipping prices

So does anyone know of somewhere online that sells these... I don't need fuel lines, I just need the three little hoses:

                1. the one that runs from the fuel pressure sensor to the fuel pressure regulator
                2. the one that runs from the tb to the fuel pressure purge valve
                3. and (if I can find it) the hose that runs from the valve to the return hose that goes to the gas tank...

I'm missing #2 and the connectors on the others are cracked and both hoses are in bad shape

At the very least, does someone know where I can find the little rubber connectors? Would Advance or Autozone have something like this?

And also does anyone know (this may be a dumb question), can I just use regular vacuum tubing for this, or should I stick to hoses specially designated to carry fuel?

These are the two that I really need:

The third is in good enough shape, but I'll probably replace it as well since the connectors aren't 100%

1/4" diameter rubber hose man....**** those plastic pieces, they don't do well with heat, they get brittle.

Re: GM Parts Direct shipping prices

there is a reason why the shipping prices are so high in the FAQ (i think) on their website.

kinda makes me mad though, they make it like they have such cheap prices, but when i looked up the price of wheel bearings, it would cost me MORE money than to go down the chevy dealer and get them there.

i went to the chevy dealer to buy my axle seals, it would have cost me $20 more if i would have bought them from gmpartsdirect.

Yes. They're just vacuum tubing. There is no liquid introduced to this system, other than whatever byproduct is splashed over from the intake. But its all just regular vacuum line. The plastic is used for cosmetic purposes, and to save space. Just use vacuum hosing.

Hell, I removed those lines from my Monte Carlo as soon as I got the car. Never wanted to take a chance with the brittle hard plastic lines breaking.

I thought so - I use them all the time and they always beat the local dealer even with shipping. BTW, the more you order at one time the cheaper. Read their S&H info.
