  • Where to buy raptor hood???

Pickin up a 98 Trans Am with 18k miles, Non WS-6 and I want to buy the raptor hood.

Who knows of the best place to buy them?

Seems to be alot of companies that sells them on the internet, just want something good quality and reliable.

Be prepared to have uneven gaps across the nose of the car. I was very disappointed at the fit of my Raptor. Not want Expected for what is a $1000 hood after shipping. It also had a nice deep wave on the pass side above the hinge. Suncoast makes all the Raptor hoods the other places are just distributors for them. Saw a few threads one LS1tech where Suncoast sent people more than one hood because of fitment issues....but the second hoods had the same issuers. Just need to have a good body man do some work before it's painted.

Re: Where to buy raptor hood???

Well, I didnt get the car. I drove 2 hrs to go buy the car, with cash in my pocket.

He was asking 13,500 for the car, said that if I came with cash he'd sell it for 10,500.

So, I took 10,500 out of the bank, went to buy the car because it looked immaculate in the photo's, and talked to the guy on the phone and he said it was in showroom condition and only had 18k miles.

So there were alot of minor imperfections in the paint, alot of scratches from the fuel door all the way to the air slots in front of the front door. The undercarriagee was very rusty, but he claimed it was in a garage since new.

It was also claimed that it was his grandmothers car, who had just passed away and it was her fun car.

a few of the body lines were slighty misaligned, not very bad but enough to lead me to believe it had been wrecked. I took a friend with me who runs the body shop at my work, he knows what to look for on crashed cars, and one of the hooks on the bottom of the car was marred up and rusty, while the other side had no marks on it. He said that they would straighten the car from these " hook " areas I guess.

So after I took the car for a drive it was a done deal, I brought it back and told him I was going to pass on the car.

                    *Pulled hard to the right
                    * Steering wheel shook at 25mph + badly
                    *Hard 1 / 2 shift
                    * several blown speakers
*Ash tray and center console were full of ashes, loose change, some stinky junk.. etc
*the headlight motors were very loud and clunky
                    * Driver door panel was scratched kinda bad
                    * The power antenna was loud as hell and didnt work properly
                    * power didnt seem smooth at all

When I told him I was going to pass on the car, he got all defensive and in my face when I told him it wasnt what I was looking for, I was looking for something more perfect.
Most of you know me well enough to know I have a bad atitude and kinda stand-offish which led to a huge argument between me and the seller and my friend that went with me to pick up the car almost had to call the police.

The thing of it was he said i was wasting his time, when im the one that drove 2 hrs to go look at his car that was "in showroom condition" and that I couldnt find a cleaner car anywhere. The most fugged up part, is that this guy owns a car / truck repair facility and they restore cars. I asked how someone that deals with car restorations and mechanicals all day long could say this car is flawless.

                    He really lost it when:
                    1. I asked him if he was blind
                    2. I asked him if he had ever driven the car
                    3. I asked him if it was a salvage car with a junk yard cluster with only 18k miles

Overall it wasnt a bad car, kinda average condition if he was willing to fix the alignment and the shakey wheel.

But it was more like a 80k mile car then a 18k mile car if you asked me.
                    *Matt

Re: Where to buy raptor hood???

It was a private seller, not a car dealer.

It was sitting in the parking lot for sale at his car / truck repair place.

Thought it was a great price for a car with that low of mileage, Said he was firm on his price at first but after I told him I had cash he came off the price, said he's sick of dealing with 100 people a day trying to finance the car and its not worth the trouble.

yeah, if it actually had been in showroom condition with 18k miles, you basically woulda been stealing it from him!

                            I agree.

To me it sounded like a steal, but the fact that your buddy found out it was most likely wreaked, I would have passed too. It all would seem minor repair if it weren't for the possibility of being wreaked. Hell, that shake and pull may never go away, or it maybe nothing much at all. But I think you did great because its not worth the risk.

But I at least understand where he was coming from about all the ppl bothering him. You wont believe all the freaking calls about my sixer ESH! But I am completely honest about whats up with my car. You seen the ad, I even told of each paint chip etc... Thats the fair and right way.

Well, good to see you didnt get effed.
You still going to look for another?

Yea Ive got my eyes on a 02 SS Camaro that I went and drove and already looked at, it is immaculate and perfect in every way.

Only mod is a short throw shifter, and magnaflow exhaust which was installed 3 years ago, and you could still eat of the pipes they are so clean.

It has 30k miles on it, but he's firm on 14,000 and not a dollar less, So I May buy that, I may keep looking.

Guy is the original owner, and he's 60 something yrs old
