  • Ran the barn build at Byron yesterday

Some of you may have seen my most recent project in the build thread.

99 Camaro V6 swapped to an LS1 out of a wrecked 99 Trans Am. Got it running on Friday, finished buttoning up everything else on Saturday morning. Didn't get out to Byron until 230p. Current mod list reads like this

    LS6 Intake
Unknown (possibly OBX) Headers - open
    Fast Toys 85mm Lid
    Speed Inc Filter
Unknown type/stall Yank Converter - Was told it was 3400
3.42 Gear that came with the V6
    Chrs1313 Ram Air
Slight weight reduction (took out about 200ish pounds)

I was quite nervous about making the first pass. This has been a rushed build, done literally in a barn during late nights. I can't even begin to thank the people who have helped!

    First pass

-.011 R/T Damned close to chopping the tree down!
1.773 60' Whoa! On brand new 255/50/16 ET Street Radials
    5.131 330'
    7.903 1/8th
    88.02 MPH
    10.318 1000'
    12.345 1/4
    111.26 MPH

Needless to say I was STUNNED. I didn't think it would be that quick the first pass. Backed it up the 2nd pass with a 12.36, then spun hard on the 3rd pass on my way to a 13.27.

I still have several issues to iron out. I don't have any gauges. When I turn the key to the "Run" position, I don't get anything lighting up on the gauge cluster other than the seat belt light. No SES, Airbag, Nada. When I plugged in HP Tuners, I don't get any data other than it is a 2002 LS1 PCM. I can see DTC's, but when I tried the gauge function, I had nothing on the display. I also have a DTC for the Cam Position Sensor. About 1 time out of 5, I'm having a difficult time starting. I'm hoping at the moment that I have a bad BCM, and need a Case Learn for the Cam Position Sensor to clear up. Any thoughts?

Sounds like something is not plugged in or loose. Could also be a wiring harness miss match. Did you use all the wiring harness from the TA? A case relearn never hurts.

We tried plugging the BCM from the TA in, but it won't do anything because the VATS resistance is different for the Camaro key.

There are a few plugs from the engine comp/PCM to the dash check all those. BCM shouldn't make a difference as long as it lets the car start. 99 and up LS 1's use the same pin outs on the PCM. IF you kept any harness from the V6 that plugs into the PCM that might be a problem.

I'll double check all that. Here are the vids.

Why don't you swap the ignition from the TA to the Camaro?

I'm assuming you mean the ignition cylinder from the TA. That is on the table, but we would just use the whole column out of that car.

Yeah, we have that extra pin issue sorted out. It just involves jumping a wire in the wheel house harness. It's all Camaro inside the firewall. Thanks, the camera is just a Canon point and puke, nothing really special. Just wanted something with a good optical zoom.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out later. I'm hoping for 11's with tuning. Trying to end up on the LS1tech stock internal top 50.
