i'm heading down to Myrtle Beach for a long weekend and on the way back we are going to hit the Tail of the Dragon!(look it up if you have never heard of it) It will add about 2.5 hrs to the trip but i figured why not.
Im not taking my camaro though. i was planning on taking my focus zx3 that is lowered but my dad offered his z28 convertible for the trip so i couldn't turn him down! Has anybody ever been there? any suggestions?
You might wanna double check your plans. The dragon has been closed due to mudslides for a while, and I don't think it's gotten any better with the ****ty weather they have been having.
March 16, 2010: Rock Slide has CLOSED both lanes of Rt. 129 (Deals Gap, The Dragon) between the Foothills Parkway and the TN/NC border.
11 mile stretch of "the Dragon" will be opened 8 AM - 8 PM daily, beginning April 12, but is only accessible from the NC (south) side.
TN DOT estimate complete re-opening 129 end of July.
TN DOT has created a web page for information on the rockslide which can be found at www.tn.gov/tdot .
"The Dragon's Tail" (aka-deal's gap/tail of the dragon) is awesome! lucky, i live close enough to drive over there on occasion, but yeah, from what i've heard from a friend who's a state trooper, they've had some mud slides & the cops have been crackin down there so watch your six, but it is an absolute blast to drive, exhausting, but fun! 318 corners crammed into 11 miles of mountain road! ...just make sure your brakes are up for it cause it'll warp a set of rotors & chew up a set of pads real quick-but have fun & check out killboy.com afterward for pictures of your car
