  • Diecast collectors?

    Hey all,

Does anyone here collect diecast? I collect Johnny Lightning, Greenlight and some Matchbox. The majority of my collection is made up of Camaro's, Firebird's, Chevelle's, Buick's, Oldsmobile's, Cadillac's, some Mopar's and station wagons. The years range from 1968 - present and I have around 400 cars. I'm not too big on the 50's cars, although I have quite a few Johnny Lightning Bel Air's and Nomad's.

    Thanks, Joe

Yep I collect... Mostly hot wheels but if it's a car model i want that i don't have and can't find it in Hot Wheels I'll get it from another maker (example... '68 yenko camaro from Johnny Lightning). Same as you, I go for the classic muscle mostly. Some collectors purchase based on rarity but that's not my approach, although I love finding 10+ yr old mint-in-box cars for cheap. Overall my collection is <100 cars.
I started truly "collecting" only a few months ago, although I have a few dozen hot wheels left over from when I was a little kid and my mom would buy them for me. Those are mostly from the 70s and 80s with one hot wheels red line from 1969. My oldest unopened cars are from the Matchbox World Class collectors edition series from 1989 and 1990.

In the next week or so I'm going to be selling my vintage star wars collection (well maybe half of it is from the late 90s when SW hit the big screen again). Some of that money will be thrown right back at Hot Wheels. I'm selling it cuz I haven't collected SW stuff since I was maybe 11 yrs old lol

Yeah I'm pretty much a nerd...

It's funny actually...I bought a couple firebirds that resembled my "actual" car for the heck of it. Since then my girlfriend has made it "my" hobby to collect choice cars. I like the 1/18 scale cars better because of the detail.

I have lots of Muscle cars Mopar, Chevy, Dodge.....But this one is my favorite.

Johnny Lightning is the only 1:24 scale I collect because of the quality.

                But I prefer 1:18

                  I'm a "recovering" collector. LOL

Had over 2000 cars at one time, but sold most on eBay over the past years. Still have a couple hundred packed away, but they are the "special editions", sets and the like. Mostly Johnny Lightning. Down to Firebirds, Corvettes, GTOs, and street rods mostly.

                  And a few 1:24 also.

                      Re: Diecast collectors?

I just bought a few '95 Camaro hot wheels cars today. It's funny, I have way more die cast camaros now than firebirds LOL. But trust me, if hot wheels made late 4th gen firebirds my room would be full of them by now (or have they? I just can't find any).
Anyway, my '95 camaro collection is up to:
-1997 hot wheels "Nestle Crunch" '95 camaro convertible
-2000 hot wheels "Pace Car" '95 camaro convertible
-2002 hot wheels "Flamin' Hot Wheels" '95 camaro convertible
-2003 hot wheels "Franken Berry" '95 camaro convertible
-<unknown year*> hot wheels '95 camaro convertible (solid red) (loose)
-<unknown year*> hot wheels "Gilstein University" '95 camaro (loose)

*I'm too lazy to look it up.

Among these 6 cars are 4 different rim/wheel styles. Pretty cool. I'm about to set up a peg board to mount my collection on... Maybe I'll take some pics for ya'll when it's up.

                        Re: Diecast collectors?

Very cool! I just finished my Matchbox Premiere '93 Z-28 collection with the yellow varation that was an Albertson's store exclusive. It took me 3 1/2 years to track one down and I won it for $2.90 on ebay last month.

I recently picked up the Greenlight "CamaroZ28.com" limited edition '06 Camaro prototype in blue w/ yellow rims. Unfortunately, the prototype casting doesn't look that great compared to the 2010 Camaro casting that they produce. I may consider throwing that on eBay soon with some other cars.

I saw a 1995 matchbox premiere car today, at the same place I bought my camaros. It was mint on card for $1. I forget what model car it was though. Maybe I should have just bought it.

I collect models from a company called the danbury mint. The cars are about $120 a piece. I have a 1953 Chevy truck, a 1968. Nova SS, a gto judge, and a 1957 Chevy dragster. I also collect hotwheels. Not really sets, just anything related to VW or Nova's.
