  • Update on my wife's condition

It's going to be 3 weeks now since she's been hospitalized for renal failure. They were able to get her kidneys running again, but not to normal. This all happened because of the 34 medications she takes a day and 4 or 5 of those are powerful diuretics, plus they restricted her fluid intake down to 2 liters or less a day. This is so they could get rid of the fluid build up on her body, which caused her body weight to go from 115lbs to 205lbs.

Now they have no choice but to hydrate her back while taking out 4 gallons of fluid off her belly. They could've taken out more, but they decided to leave a little bit of it in there. Hopefully I'll have her back home with me this weekend.

What I wanted to say to guys most of all is that the heart surgeons at UCLA. The best top heart surgeons in the WORLD, are considering her too much of a risk for a heart transplant, so they might rule her out.

They actually wanted to perform a heart and lung transplant, but my wife's primary heart doctor at Kaiser said no. Why, because he said that he had sent a number of patients to them for that kind of transplant and all of them were far more better shape than my wife and they only lasted for a couple years. He said they all died very painfully. He said he would rather see my wife die from just a heart transplant than die from a heart and lung transplant. It is that painful. He said never again would he do that.

He's fighting UCLA doctors tooth and nail to put her on a heart transplant list only and not for heart and lung transplant. It's not looking too good right now. Our last hope would be Stanford University.

And yes, my IBS is acting really bad on me. I'm trying my best to relax right now and not think too much about this. Our lives SUCK. Anybody wanna buy my Firebird? It's literally a brand new car.

Wow Edgar, I'm really sorry to hear all of that. I hope everything goes better for you and your wife, you'll be in my prayers. And although I haven't seen too many pictures of your bird, it is amazing! If you do sell it, hopefully it goes to someone who will take care of it as well as you did.

Re: Update on my wife's condition

I have prayed for your wife and will continue to, unless you object.

Hoping for a turn around in her condition.

I know how much it hurts watching someone you love decline, and you are powerless to fix the problem yourself. Wondering if the doctors are making the right decisions, wondering if they are the best available, having to put your trust in people you don't really know. Its hard. A strong faith helps.

          Wishing you the very best.

          Regards,

          Mark

Don't think about selling your car now... I can tell there's a lot on your mind and cars should be the last thing, unless of course you're out driving or working on your car to keep your mind off of things.

sorry to hear that things aren't getting any better. we all need to live every second to the fullest and not have a second of regret. it's sad that most people find that out the hard way.

hope u both fell better soon

Re: Update on my wife's condition

Oh my God. I really hate to hear that your going through this man. Our prayers are with your wife, you, and your family. We've all been through tough times in our lives, but situations like this seem to have a way of draining all hope from you. Just remember that faith and hope is always there, and that miraculous changes happen every day. And unless your needing the money, don't sell the car man. It's something you'll end up regretting.

And with having 3 relatives with severe medical conditions, I understand the importance of knowing options that are out there also. I know that when medical care is on peoples minds, Alabama is not a place that usually comes to mind. But UAB Health System hospital in Birmingham, AL also has one of the top rated heart transplantation centers in the country. I know it's on the other side of the country from you, but it's another option that's out there. But, I wish you the best of luck with finding the best place for care for your wife, and I will definitely pray for you guys too.
