    Re: World Cup

No no no. Soccer players are not tough by any means. Endurant, yes, tough, no. All the contact in the sport is coincidental. FOOTBALL players are tough. Just because you can run around a field for 45 minutes at a time does not impress me, I live in a building full of kids that can do that ****, and do day in, and day out. Up and down the street, running.

I think this tough **** comes from individuals who played soccer but no real contact sport, i.e. hockey, football, wrestling.

x2...I would say they are endurant as well, but no where near tough...if they were "tough" they wouldn't sit out because they have a "bruised" collerbone. and strategy or not, if you have to play like a P*ssy to get calls just so you can win...maybe your team should train harder.

that being said, I played soccer for one year as a kid, I enjoy watching my team in the world/euro cup...other then that I don't watch soccer...I can't name you any players really other then the big name guys that everyone knows about. I really just like the parties and chirping the portegeus people :D

...and then there are the people who only go to games to wail on a vuvuzela for 90 minutes.

Its a finesse sport. Comparing apples to oranges here. I play hockey, no cage. I get my sh!t busted all the time. Yet I still have respect for people who play soccer. Most soccer players come from cultures where you aren't judged by how hard you can hit someone, they just don't care about that stuff. If you don't like it, thats fine. No one is saying that a soccer player could out-muscle a football player. I would, however, venture to say that soccer players are better all-around athletes.

I love playing hockey. It is truly satisfying sending someone flying into the boards. However, placing the perfect through ball is pretty nice also.

Edit: 99% of my friends are lacrosse players. They come back from practices all black and blue. Yet we always have fun messing around with a soccer ball. You don't have to only choose one or the other!

I played soccer for 5 years. Having said that.

It is enjoyable to watch football and hockey because there is actual contact and you're right about there being other things to do or watch instead of football or hockey. Watch The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, King of the Hill, House, Go for a cruise, wash a car, watch paint dry, watch grass grow, climb a telephone pole, eat paint chips.... All of these things are better than watching guys run back and forth across and field and accomplish absolutely nothing at all. Just my .02 cents.

US is totally out now because we lost to Ghana. Same country that beat us 4 years ago.

I can understand how some people think the game would be boring because you just want to see goals scored, which sometimes happen only once a game or sometimes never. But when I watch the game I enjoy seeing the perfect cross or a nice through ball or the one-on-one situations. Its a game of patients. You can't just kick the ball forward to get it to the goal to score, which seems to frustrate some people watching.
Yes, you are right. And This game was actually pretty good.

LOL, these are the best people. Everyone that puts on FB go USA but has no idea what is going on or what time the game even is. It was funny because Friday night I got into an argument with a couple kids I was hanging out with and they both kept saying how well USA was playing.

I just told them to watch tomorrow when they don't win and sure enough.

This Germany/England game is good, sucks the ref didn't see the second goal for England.

                        Haha.

I have no problem with people being patriotic. I support the US in the Olympics regardless of the sport. I will admit, however, that it gets annoying when people try to pretend that they have always been fans. I would have much more respect for them if they came out and said they are just enjoying being able to cheer on their country.
