Give me your opinion re: a road trip next week

I'll be taking a 2000 mile round-trip road trip (1000 miles each way) at the end of next week. I'll be driving by myself.

Question:
Should I take my 10.5 year old, 188,000 mile Firebird or my wife's much newer, still under GM warranty Buick minivan?

The big issue for me is will I risk a breakdown in my aging car. The Firebird has never been out of Florida (I almost took it on a road trip last year, but I took the minivan instead because i was hauling a lot of things, plus my two sons, plus the car was suffering from a coolant leak at that time).

As far as vehicle comfort, I prefer the Firebird for almost everything except the Terazza has XM and the Firebird does not.

Took 4 ppl to and from east TN (twice) in my Bird. Had about the same amount of miles. Did great, ran great, mpg etc...

Going to TN again in Feb. I have a 99 LS1 M6, but Im taking the old *** ZJ that has 225,000+ miles. But I have more ppl. If it were just two and were staying a shorter time, then Id take the Camaro. To me it all comes down to room... Because I know any vehicle can break down at anytime...

Are either of them automatic trans? At the risk in getting stuck in bad traffic (depends where you're headed and what roads you use ofc) you should just go with whichever is an auto. Think about sitting in stop-and-go traffic with a manual after being in the car all day.... uggh that'll suck.

LOL and the "part van" thing.

I'm driving by myself and yes, my are autmatic transmission - although it is going to be mostly I-95, so not too many gear shifts or stop and go traffic there, hopefully.

take the bird...makes for a much funner drive...I love taking the camaro on long trips...can't have fun in a minivan!!

You're really going to regret taking the bird for those 2000 MI if it breaks down.. seems as though you're not too confident about it in the first place since you asked the forum if its a good idea to take it or not!

obviously the one on bottom looks better and would be more fun and take better pictures :rolleyes:..... but i have to go with the one on top lol
