How long can a tire safely last then? I thought checking for cracks and rot was the important thing.

I personally go through a set of tires per year and wont purchase a tire more than 3 years old. Thats just me though cause I live in Maine where the weather can be fairly extreme.

Especially after seeing those pics, it's comforting to know your sister is okay. Hopefully the pain she mentioned turns out to be nothing troublesome. I had a tire blow out on my Camaro a little over a year ago. The moment I heard something, I slowed down and pulled over. The entire sidewall had separated from the right rear tire. No damage done to the car, though. I count my blessings on that one.

Crazy. Glad shes ok.


I had a tire blow on my accord last year. It blew at 4:30am on the PA Turnpike, going probably 80-85mph, in the rain. So miserable. Luckily I managed to keep it under control somehow.

Glad to hear shes okay, that tire did quite the job on the camaro. Hate to see another one go down but this is a reminder to check the dates on your tires.
