Re: Almost ran over a dog

4 birds, all while on gravel. One turkey, but I was moving about 35 and the front right bumper just kinda punted it back into the ditch it decided to jump out of. Smacked the head off a possum, aaaaaand actually kinda made an attempt to hit a indecisive squirrel in the road, and won!

Other than a quail, a turkey, bunch of misc small birds and squirrels, the 'maro hasnt had as many kills as id like.

Recently, whilst driving on gravel, a "pack, herd, pride?" of kittens just popped outa nowhere and started across my pre-determined path of movement, but they turned back. That would have made me a bit sad lol. Then later that week I saw a bunch of white objects dart across the road, thinking two thoughts: Kittens- OH crap! poor things (as well as m-m-m-m-m-m-mMONSTER KILLLLL) and Dog- Aw **** my bumper. Turned out to be trash :/

The only animals I try to hit are groundhogs. The rest, if they're small enough to not break something on my car, I just ignore.

Gotta be able to think fast.... Is it worth hitting, or try dodging it and possibly crash?:eek::eek: If hitting it will do no damage, then I run it over. Its my life vs the animals life. I always win.

nailed a squirrel once on accident, diddnt really bother me, but the chick i had in the car with me went crazy

i was going about 60 once on a two lane road at 3 in the morning and came up over a hill to see a really really big dog in my lane. i slammed on the brakes and swerved around him, that bastard diddnt even move. scared the **** outta me tho. that thing would have effed my car up.

Re: Almost ran over a dog

I agree with having respect, but you also have to consider that my area is swarming with squirrels, they are not someones pet (id damage my car before I killed someones pet) and it was more of a quick jab left out of fun then an actual attempt. It just ended with a soft bu-bump.

But you are right, and its not something I care to try over and over. :P

A friend of mine has hit about 12 dogs of his neighbors because they live out in the country and they breed dogs. The last time, it was the first day they got a dog for breeding when he hit it, right in front of the kids while they were bbq-ing. He felt horrible, but the owner was just "eh, grab a shovel and a gun and we'll hopefully finish before I burn the burgers." I think its just different here lol.

I hit a possum in the bird once. I tried to avoid it but couldn't.

I get nervous where I live because we have tons of bears. Bear vs. car.... bear wins

Is that all it takes to be an a-hole nowadays? Laughing after the fact? I don't think my grieving over a dead squirrel is gonna bring him back to life or get me any bonus points with Jesus. Many people, like myself, cope with disaster and grief through humor. I find all kinds of sick/nasty/sad things downright hilarious, but the things I laugh at are the things I can't control so there's often no reason for me to feel bad. Sure sometimes I'll aim at a groundhog on the road... but I've also had plenty experience aiming at groundhogs with a shotgun in my backyard. Every farmer knows what kind of havoc they can wreak on a barn, and I've been at war with the varmints since I could first hold a gun. So, good luck getting me to feel bad about putting tires on their face when I'm rolling down a back road.

(Oh, and every recreational hunter gets "enjoyment" out of killing animals, only I don't sit in a tree for 3 hours waiting for one to walk by.)

Raccoons walking about our shop during the day are 9mm mince meat, squirrels, groundhogs and anything four legged that isnt a dog, cat or something that could carry you away is .45, 5.56 or bigger target practice. Not only are they sick if they are seen around people during the day, but they also ruin and destroy a farmers lively hood. And I could care less what an animal goes through in its final moments after a few rounds if its sick, or if its a danger to the shop/children around the shop, or the neighbors income. Sometimes there are just bigger things to worry about then stuff that just HAPPENS.

I think it was in 1998 I was doing about 45 mph and a dog ran across the road , saw him luckly for a split second from the corner from my eye and braked, so I think I hit him at about 15 MPH , enough to have him bounce off my front ground effects and he ran off, we looked for him but never found him, so I think he was O.K. , made my front ground effects come down though, had to tape them back up.LOL But I was glad the dog wasn't mangled under my car or something like that or lying there in pain , that would be the worst. But who knows maybe he ran off and died, LOL J/K.

My friend hit me with his car once. He was pulling into a parking spot that I was standing in and didn't stop in time. I was fine but my shin cracked his bumper haha. Serves him right.
On a more relevant note, I almost hit a skunk last night. That would've sucked.

I agree with you on that , why would anyone take enjoyment in hitting a animal, its not like the mean to aim for your vehicle on purpose except some animals who are attracted by the headlights, like deer, mule deer and elk who will broad side your vehilce or run toward your headlights. If its a accident and you tried all you could to aviod with taking into concideration of your lives and others on the road thats fine but if you know and do nothing I agree #1 a$$hole, I always will drive around birds in the road that don't move and will go out of my safest way not to hit a animal. If you can do that and think its fun take your dog or cat and run over it, you probably won't feel the same or you might who knows.

12sec.V6 when I drive up north where my older brother lives , they have warning for elk which can get very big ,I always gets nervous driving the speed limit of 75mph through there on the highway, becuase it will only take one to total my car and kill me. I always here stories of another person hitting one and see the damage on the news.
