They were on board the Amtrak Silver Star today in Wasington DC, ready ot head back to Florida after the Natrional Boy Scout Jamboree. However, the train never left the station because a coal train derailment has blocked the tracks near Quantico, Virginia.
We'll see what happens. The Scout leaders said Amtrak is supposed to provide lodging.
And no - they can't use their tents and camping gear. All of that stuff is on a truck that is hauling the gear back to Florida.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I hate getting stuck in that kind of situation. When I was in high school, my mom and I were on a flight coming out of DFW to the local regional airport that had to turn around because of bad weather. We ended up sitting on the tarmac of a closed down OKC airport for two hours before a second approach was attempted, and ended up going back to DFW. The flight company paid to put everyone up in a hotel until the next flight in the morning. When the hotel ended up being overbooked, we were sent to another down the road. It was a headache that I wouldn't want to go through again, but we didn't have to pay for the room and got additional free miles as an incentive.
I learned the importance of keeping a fresh change of clothes and toiletries in my carry-on bag on that trip. Our luggage was kept on the plane that night.
