  • Bought a Third-Gen..

Today I brought home our new toy.. Drum roll please!!

A black '90 Firebird Formula!!

I picked the car up locally for a very good price. 122k miles on the OD. It has the 5.7 TPI, automatic and power everything. The one option that the car did not come with is T-Tops.. but I am not complaining. When I set out to by another fourth-gen Camaro earlier this year I wanted a hard top but ended buying a T-Top.

Anyway, The paint is original and still shines. The dash pad is cracked on the passanger side and the driver seat has a rip. The rear spoiler is warping and shows signs of paint fade. Other than that this car is straight up and flat out scary once we got on I-275 and I opened her up. It made my old '96 LT1 feel like a Ford Escort.

I'm going to give her a bath tomorrow, a nice coat of wax, then take some pics!

    Thanks! Joe

So this is a highly modified TPI?

Good choice though. I love 3rd gen myself. In 1997 was going to buy a low mileage red 89 GTA convertible made by PASS before my 98 Bird. So this was an extremely rare GTA because it was convertible.

I don't really care much for 4th gen, except when I saw in person what the 98+ Firebird looked like. It was love at first sight. Instead of buying the GTA for 8k cash, I made a down payment for it.

A TPI motor that makes a LT1 feel slow? Really?

            Re: Bought a Third-Gen..

Given that the LT1 horspower and torque ratings are higher, I doubt that it is faster. But it has been two years since I last drove that car.. probably my mind playing tricks on me. The car is not modified in anyway, shape or form.

Pics coming as soon as I finish the detail. I am at work today so I haven't had the time to do anything yet. I'm going to try and get my plates tomorrow morning.

Dude, good choice on the ride, I bet shes fun as hell. But theres no way that TPI is faster than a LT1 stock or faster mod for mod for that matter. But I can see it if it feels that way. Enjoy it either way man. And take good care of her!!

As I said earlier, pics are coming. I work 12 hour days and have not had the time to mess with it. I'll get them when I get them. If you can't wait, don't open this thread again.

                      Nice buy:)

Stock vs Stock my friends 1992 Formula 5.7 A4 beat my 94 TA GT A4 by a tenth in the quarter consistently.

His car was a bare bones stripper with no power options at all and cloth int and weighed 3450.

Mine was a loaded out car with leather and weighed 3720.
