  • Finally back to work after 6 months

All I can say is DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYUM!

I was going stir crazy sitting at home doing nothing.

So, the doctor finally approved me to go back to work so I've made it through 1 week. It was tough because I'm good for about 5 hours and then the pain and soreness starts hitting hard!

Physical therapy is extremely hard - 3 times a week for 1.5 hrs but it is worth it.

I really need to work on my stamina - it has gone to the crapper over the past 2 years. I try and walk almost every day and use the eliptical bike as much as possible but I know it will take time.

It is really setting in how much life has changed.

To give you an example.... if you are looking straight ahead and turned your head all the way to the left or right, most of us can look slightly over our shoulder behind us (depending on flexibility). That's like 90+ degree's of turning movement. I can turn my head left or right to a maximum of 21 degrees..... basically.... not much at all.

When the weather is cold or humid or both I am in extreme pain. The coldest it has gotten here is high 50's.... I am afraid to see what it will be like when the winter is here. Metal and human tissue expand at different rates and this is the cause of my pain - after each surgery they added more pins, screws, plates n bars etc and the pain due to weather increased significantly. I hate to say it but I have considered the possibility of moving south to a warmer climate. You might say that thought is a bit premature but I had 2 screws added to my knee 15+ years ago and it is always affected by weather... I'm just trying to prepare for the future.

Driving is extremely difficult. I've had to add mini mirror's to my side mirrors of the truck. I've had to replace my rear view mirror with one that is frigin 18 inches wide - yes I know.... uber lame! I've been looking into back up camera's but haven't found the one I want.

I've got a huge amoeba shaped numb/ desensatized area across my left shoulder, upper back, and neck. It is REALLY annoying as I have accidentally burned myself in the shower because I couldn't tell how hot the water is.

There are other things but I won't bore you.

I don't mean to sound like a b*tch fest. Reality is setting in..... and it is annoying me alot that 2 stupid careless drivers have changed my life significantly.

I am very happy to be alive and I am trying to adapt to my "new" life.

Re: Finally back to work after 6 months

I've been off work almost 4 years, bored as hell, will have my lower back surgery coming up but will take about a years to recover and even after that I can only work 4 hours a day becuase of the stroke and I still have damaged my T11- and T-12 they need to look at. AZ would be a good place to work , winters are like falls , and don't have to worry about alot of rain, snow, fires, tornados, hurricanes or earthquakes , just the damm heat in the summer, from June-October.Glad to see you back up and going.
