I don't see the mentioned connection between homosexuality and pedophilia, and this "pursuit of happiness". Sexual orientation is pretty limited on choices; you're either homosexual, heterosexual, or bisexual (unless you're one of the few a-sexual). Practices like pedophila and this pursuit of happiness are a behavior, not an orientation; and are typically a result of exposure to abnormal prepubescent social and psychological behavior and lack of censorship.
To say that problems like pedophilia are a direct result of homosexuality is a blind statement. The growing lack of censorship in today's society is reflected by both homosexual and heterosexual relationships. In fact, a majority of "frowned upon" behavior exposed to the public through media and entertainment is hetero-based. A small percentage of such behavior that you see on television or the internet (outside of "gay sites or channels") is homosexual-related. Firsthand exposure to this behavior is a bit different. If you walk into a club and see a heterosexual couple making out and a homosexual couple making out, which one are you more likely to notice? Obvious answer, the homosexual couple. Why? Because heterosexual couples and such affection are perceived to be norms in society. Homosexual couples are not the norm in most societies, and as a result have become the scapegoat to be blamed for abnormal or illegal behavior.
These "orgies" and parades are nothing new. They were originally conducted by heterosexuals involved in the counterculture. While it's not seen as anything extreme today, "Make Love, Not War" and other pro-social indulgences were rather extreme for the society of that decade. Just as these gay rights parades are frowned upon by those that view such behavior as extreme or outside of today's society and social norms.
As for the "Two Daddies" book being banned... well, I do feel that it isn't something that should be circulated throughout the school system as a necessity. Although a banning or blacklisting is something I never agree with, it should at least be available to those that choose to read it (with certain age restrictions). Then again, this whole book mess doesn't surprise me, as this is California we're talking about.
Now that actually sounds like a reply from a follower of Jesus. :)
lol well, we can learn from each other and have a civil discussion without name calling or any of that sort of thing because we both know that accomplishes nothing.
A man making love to a man or woman to woman is plain WRONG and unnatural.
WHY? No matter how many times you say it, and how many times you say it in ALL CAPS, simply saying "it's WRONG" over and over again is by far the weakest argument you could possibly present! Why is it wrong? Because it's unnatural? If it's unnatural essence is what makes you disapprove of it, let's look at what else humans do that is unnatural:
1) flying
2) going into outer space
3) brain surgery
4) artificial limbs (Do you think we should outlaw those, too? Damned cyborgs with their metal legs and plastic hips!! Let them suffer THE NATURAL way!)
5) organ transplants
6) pace makers
7) life support
8) Oh hey, what about anal sex? Don't men do that with women? I suspect you're just as opposed to anal sex between a man and a woman as you are between a man and a man, right? Of course you are, because if you weren't, you would indeed be a hypocritical bigot. You can't have kids with anal sex! It's just common sense.
You're right. We should hop in our time machine and go back and ask the founding fathers what they think about it. On our way to the 1770s we'll stop in the 1820s and the 1860s just to get their input too. But I'll be damned if we'll listen to today's society! (Seriously dude, wtf are you thinking when you say things like this? Today's society and it's offspring are the only people affected by these decisions!)
This wouldn't have been accepted 10-15 years ago. But because of the liberal medias, hollywood actors, and what have you keeps bringing it and try to brainwash us that it's OK makes it OK now.
Brainwash? You have no idea what brainwash means, do you? Or maybe you just disagree with "hollywood actors" therefore they must be trying to brainwash you.
Let me ask you this. If a pedophile said it's ok to have sex with a minor as long as it is consentual and it recieved the backings of Hollywood Celebrities, Liberal Medias and enough people are teaching would you jump on that?
At what point did I say hollywood celebrities and the liberal media had ANYTHING to do with my opinions? At what point did I say hollywood celebrities and the liberal media had ANYTHING to do with my opinions? Again, seriously dude, I don't know what you're thinking when you type these things.
It's constitutional, he or she is pursuing Happiness.
You see those of us who disagree are labelled BIGOTS. Just answer my question on pedophiles who is seeking out their own happiness.
I answered your question, even though pedophilia has nothing to do with gay marriage. You're only grasping at straws trying to connect two completely unrelated subjects.
Interracial marriage is different. They are still both male and female which is natural and can procreate another being and effectively raised them with a father figure who represent masculinity and a mother figure who represent femininity. YOU CAN"T have that with a homosexual marriage.
You've never met an effeminate male or a masculine female? Or maybe they gross you out too much for you to even consider their parenting abilities and they love they would have for their children just as you would love your own.
BTW.. I am mix myself and my wife is from a hispanic race. If God willing we have children we would be great parents.
The irony here is that you wouldn't exist if it weren't for proponents of interracial marriage, a type of marriage that was deemed wholly UNNATURAL just decades ago. Jeeze dude, where do you get off saying these things?
I don't have a problem with them having a Civil or Social Union and getting the same benefit.
No. You're wrong. They don't get the same benefits. Have you ever heard of the various cases where a member of a same-sex union was denied visiting rights to their dying partner in a hospital because they weren't considered a husband or wife? Well now you just have.
Religion created this title and no one has the authority to change its meaning.
Here's what else the bible says- http://www.thebiblealsosays.com/quotes_all.html
Give it a read, particularly the parts about child abuse and slavery.
Oh sure, we can ignore the stuff about when it's acceptable to beat your child or own slaves, but to redefine marriage? Goodness no! /sarcasm
The Constitution has been manipulated many times in its young history. Our Founding Fathers never in their knowledge and wisdom ever imagine anything like this.
You're right, I bet gay sex was invented by hippies sometime in the 1960s. /sarcasm
If religion was winning in every aspect in this country this country would be a lot different. Problem is religion has been brushed aside way too many times.
Wait, that's a problem? Look at the link I posted above, and I dare you to say that any religion, followed down to the letter, would make this a better country. Do you disapprove that we've pushed aside the bible when it comes to how to treat your children? Do you disapprove that we've pushed aside what the bible says about slavery?
AGAIN, dude, what are you thinking when you say these things?
Religion is what founded this country and not by a bunch of liberal athiests. You got the Catholic Missionaries in Calif, Arizona, New Mexico, to Texas all the all to the Puritans who landed in the Plymouth Rock, the Baptist, Methodist, and so on. It's religion what gave this country its identity. Our Founding Fathers were all religious men who quoted God many times all the way to Abraham Lincoln who quoted God when he wrote 4 scores and 7 years ago.
You're right, they weren't atheists. They were secularists. Men of the enlightenment, not men of Christianity. Oh, and Abraham Lincoln rejected Christianity. He even wrote a treatise against religion. He only included biblical quotes in speeches at the request of White House staff in order to appeal to a broader audience. John T. Stuart, Abraham Lincoln's first law partner, said of him: "He was an avowed and open infidel, and sometimes bordered on atheism. He went further against Christian beliefs and doctrines and principles than any man I have ever heard."
In regards to your comments about the founding fathers of this country:
"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise." -James Madison; April 1, 1774
"Ecclesiastical establishments tend to great ignorance and corruption, all of which facilitate the execution of mischievous projects." -James Madison
"This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it." -John Adams
"In every country and every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot ... they have perverted the purest religion ever preached to man into mystery and jargon, unintelligible to all mankind, and therefore the safer engine for their purpose." -Thomas Jefferson; to Horatio Spafford, March 17, 1814
"I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature." -Thomas Jefferson
"Let us, then, fellow citizens, unite with one heart and one mind. Let us restore to social intercourse that harmony and affection without which liberty and even life itself are but dreary things. And let us reflect that having banished from our land that religious intolerance under which mankind so long bled, we have yet gained little if we countenance a political intolerance as despotic, as wicked, and capable of a bitter and bloody persecutions." -Thomas Jefferson
"Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable hatreds than those which spring from any other cause. Of all the animosities which have existed among mankind, those which are caused by the difference of sentiments in religion appear to be the most inveterate and distressing, and ought most to be depreciated. I was in hopes that the enlightened and liberal policy, which has marked the present age, would at least have reconciled Christians of every denomination so far that we should never again see the religious disputes carried to such a pitch as to endanger the peace of society." -George Washington; letter to Edward Newenham, 1792
"Lighthouses are more helpful than churches." -Benjamin Franklin
". . . Some books against Deism fell into my hands. . . It happened that they wrought an effect on my quite contrary to what was intended by them; for the arguments of the Deists, which were quoted to be refuted, appeared to me much stronger than the refutations; in short, I soon became a thorough Deist." -Benjamin Franklin
"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason." -Benjamin Franklin
I don't care what Obama said in his acceptence speech, this is a Christian Country. The problem is the losers don't know when to shut up. It's like whinning little kids who keeps tagging at their parents. This was already put in a democratic way. We voted and twice traditional marriage won. That's how our Founding Fathers would have wanted it. Done in a Democratic way.
After reading those quotes of our founding fathers, who is the whiny little kid now- you, or me?
Thor, I think I've made it clear that you talking about same-sex marriage is comparable to me trying to tell someone how to reassemble a 3800 series II engine: I'd have no ****ing clue what I was talking about. I think your firebird is incredibly badass, and I know I don't only speak for myself when I say I'm grateful for your 7,000 posts of F-body wisdom that you've contributed to this website, but please for your sake and mine do some research before spreading misinformation about same-sex marriage.
Thats the whole thing though, the people have spoken, and the judicial system and liberal government are trying to force their own agenda regardless of what the voters have already decided.
It's called freedom. It should be declared unconsititutional to vote against someone's freedom. Group think isn't always the best way. 500 years ago, people thought the Earth was flat, and the Sun revolved around the Earth. You know who tried to put the brakes on those discoveries? Organized religion. Up until 150 years ago, it was cool to have slaves. Guess we should have held a vote for their freedom as well. Oh, that's right, it took a Presidential Declaration.
i dont believe in gay marriage, i dont really like gay people, and it goes against my religion. However i also believe in a strict reading of the constitution and to me that trumps on how i feel about every thing else. There for thats why i picked number 2.

Wrong my friend, that was science which declared the earth was flat, just like the first greek and egyptian scientists declared that everything was made of water, and that everything revolved around the earth. Religion never did anything to Copernicus who is the one who discovered that the sun is in the center of the universe, and with Galileo it had theological grounds and not only his theories, seeing as how he made his discovery of the sun and its place after Copernicus, so what exactly are you talking about?? Also, freedom does not mean you can do anything and everything, it also has its responsibilities and limits. SO basically its unconstitutional to be constitutional seeing as how it was conducted in accordance with the law. I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who said "freedom without responsibility is slavery."

Anyone know when you had to get a license to get married started anyway?
In 1923, the Federal Government established the Uniform Marriage and Marriage License Act (they later established the Uniform Marriage and Divorce Act). By 1929, every state in the Union had adopted marriage license laws.
How about the government get the hell out of it altogether:
Well the government goes have a tendency to screw up everything it touches.. It's me again, just adding my two cents because you really do bring up some interesting facts. So basically, by your showing of the fact that marriage licenses were a later addition, which by the way constitute a civil union as you know and civil unions are not recognized by most religions, it would seem that the constitution does not apply to this issue as much as it would to others seeing as how the governments involvement in this issue is relatively recent and religions really were the propagators of marriage it could be declared as a religious idea/institution and the government has no right to interfere with such. Take care FirebirdGT.

My take is that the government has no right making laws as to who can marry whom. And certainly not based on a particular religions viewpoint.
If certain christian groups are opposed to gay marriage, they don't have to marry them. But that doesn't take away the couples right to be married by some other christian group or another faith.

Sorry very weak argument on your part there 1-8 are all about Human PROGRESS!!! LOL
Homosexual is NOT human progress. LOL Nice try though.
The problem is you listen too much to the liberal media, hollywood, liberal teachers that you don't know what is right and wrong anymore. Society today are always trying to redefine what should be moral and what should be immoral. I guess you base it on what everybody else is doing and what is deemed acceptable what is not. I prefer logic. And my logic tells me that man to man relationship or woman to woman is unnatural and wrong. It doesn't happen in nature at all. You don't SEE 2 birds of the same sex building a nest together.
You're right. We should hop in our time machine and go back and ask the founding fathers what they think about it. On our way to the 1770s we'll stop in the 1820s and the 1860s just to get their input too.
Yeah, if we could we should. I'm positive this would shock them. I'm positive too that they would be on my side.
I answered your question, even though pedophilia has nothing to do with gay marriage. You're only grasping at straws trying to connect two completely unrelated subjects.
Wrong!!! Wes will tell you that I've worked with troubled youths and I've seen it all. Some people are born to be pedophilia just like some people are born gay. The kids I've worked with have a pedophilia mentality and some with being gay. It's a long story, but trust me I know this well among my kids in the past. Majority of the pedophilias are gay and they are very attracted to pre-pubescense boys.
BTW.. ask the Catholic Church why they banned and fired homosexual Priests. 95% of abuse are homosexual in nature towards boys.
You've never met an effeminate male or a masculine female? Or maybe they gross you out too much for you to even consider their parenting abilities and they love they would have for their children just as you would love your own.
It's still not the same as having a male figure who represents musculinity and female with feminity. It will never replace those 2 figures. That's why the institution of marriage was created by religion. And my argument has always been that marriage is between a man and a woman. Now if they want a civil or social union then that's fine. But as I've said a number of times now, that no one has the authority to try and redefine it.
BTW..don't be a jerk. I already told you that I have gay friends. I'm very much involved in bodybuilding and fitness industry. They are very much involve in this too. They know where I stand on and respect it. I have one who agrees that children should be reared by a man and a woman in a household.
The irony here is that you wouldn't exist if it weren't for proponents of interracial marriage, a type of marriage that was deemed wholly UNNATURAL just decades ago. Jeeze dude, where do you get off saying these things?
LOL...interracial marriage has been going on since Bible times. What the hell are you saying? You brought up another topic that is unrelated. I mean who here is of the PURE RACE? Answer...nobody.
No. You're wrong. They don't get the same benefits. Have you ever heard of the various cases where a member of a same-sex union was denied visiting rights to their dying partner in a hospital because they weren't considered a husband or wife? Well now you just have.
Bull Sh.t!!
Nobody has been to the hospital more than me here. I spend 3 weeks out of every month for the past 4 years in the hospital. I literally live there. My wife's hospital is close to West Hollywood mind you. That's gay capital. I've seen gays visiting each other all the time and staying overnight. Again, poor argument on your part. That's why I said Civil Union.
Here's what else the bible says- http://www.thebiblealsosays.com/quotes_all.html

Oh sure, we can ignore the stuff about when it's acceptable to beat your child or own slaves, but to redefine marriage? Goodness no! /sarcasm
Slavery was ended by the Christians in early centuries. Again another topic that doesn't merit this discussion. Open up another thread and I'll be happy to delve more into it.
Again, Religion define what marriage is and they started it. No one has the authority to change that. Especially not some perverted concept.
You're right, I bet gay sex was invented by hippies sometime in the 1960s. /sarcasm
No. It's been around for thousands of year since the Persian culture all the way to the Greeks and onto the Romans. But even back then they didn't call their unity "Marriage"
Mine will be long too. Check this out when they wrote letters pertaining to the Constitution before and after. And to each other and tell me that they are not Christians:
-John Adams to John Hancock:
We Recognize No Sovereign but God, and no King but Jesus! [April 18, 1775]
-John Adams:
“ The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”
• “[July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.”
–John Adams in a letter written to Abigail on the day the Declaration was approved by Congress
-Adams to the assembly "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our [bold]Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."[/bold] --October 11, 1798
-"Without Religion this World would be Something not fit to be mentioned in polite Company, I mean Hell." [John Adams to Thomas Jefferson, April 19, 1817]
-John Quincy Adams:
• “Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day [the Fourth of July]?" “Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity"?
--1837, at the age of 69, when he delivered a Fourth of July speech at Newburyport, Massachusetts.
-Benjamin Franklin: | Portrait of Ben Franklin
“ God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel” –Constitutional Convention of 1787 | original manuscript of this speech
-Thomas Jefferson:
“ The doctrines of Jesus are simple, and tend to all the happiness of man.”
“Of all the systems of morality, ancient or modern which have come under my observation, none appears to me so pure as that of Jesus.”
"I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus."
“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift from God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, and that His justice cannot sleep forever.” (excerpts are inscribed on the walls of the Jefferson Memorial in the nations capital) [Source: Merrill . D. Peterson, ed., Jefferson Writings, (New York: Literary Classics of the United States, Inc., 1984), Vol. IV, p. 289. From Jefferson’s Notes on the State of Virginia, Query XVIII, 1781.]
James Madison
“ We’ve staked our future on our ability to follow the Ten Commandments with all of our heart.”
“We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity…to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” [1778 to the General Assembly of the State of Virginia]
Thomas Paine:
“ It has been the error of the schools to teach astronomy, and all the other sciences, and subjects of natural philosophy, as accomplishments only; whereas they should be taught theologically, or with reference to the Being who is the author of them: for all the principles of science are of divine origin. Man cannot make, or invent, or contrive principles: he can only discover them; and he ought to look through the discovery to the Author.”
“ The evil that has resulted from the error of the schools, in teaching natural philosophy as an accomplishment only, has been that of generating in the pupils a species of atheism. Instead of looking through the works of creation to the Creator himself, they stop short, and employ the knowledge they acquire to create doubts of his existence. They labour with studied ingenuity to ascribe every thing they behold to innate properties of matter, and jump over all the rest by saying, that matter is eternal.” “The Existence of God--1810”
Benjamin Rush:
• “I lament that we waste so much time and money in punishing crimes and take so little pains to prevent them…we neglect the only means of establishing and perpetuating our republican forms of government; that is, the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity by means of the Bible; for this Divine Book, above all others, constitutes the soul of republicanism.” “By withholding the knowledge of [the Scriptures] from children, we deprive ourselves of the best means of awakening moral sensibility in their minds.” [Letter written (1790’s) in Defense of the Bible in all schools in America]
• “Christianity is the only true and perfect religion.”
• “If moral precepts alone could have reformed mankind, the mission of the Son of God into our world would have been unnecessary.”
"Let the children who are sent to those schools be taught to read and write and above all, let both sexes be carefully instructed in the principles and obligations of the Christian religion. This is the most essential part of education”
Letters of Benjamin Rush, "To the citizens of Philadelphia: A Plan for Free Schools", March 28, 1787
Noah Webster:
“ The duties of men are summarily comprised in the Ten Commandments, consisting of two tables; one comprehending the duties which we owe immediately to God-the other, the duties we owe to our fellow men.”
“In my view, the Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed...No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people.”
[Source: 1828, in the preface to his American Dictionary of the English Language]
Let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers just men who will rule in the fear of God [Exodus 18:21]. . . . If the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted . . . If our government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the Divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws. [Noah Webster, The History of the United States (New Haven: Durrie and Peck, 1832), pp. 336-337, 49]
“All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible.” [Noah Webster. History. p. 339]
“The Bible was America’s basic textbook
in all fields.” [Noah Webster. Our Christian Heritage p.5]
“Education is useless without the Bible” [Noah Webster. Our Christian Heritage p.5 ]
George Washington:
Farewell Address: The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations. With slight shades of difference, you have the same religion" ...and later: "...reason and experience both forbid us to expect, that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle..."
“ It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and Bible.”
“What students would learn in American schools above all is the religion of Jesus Christ.” [speech to the Delaware Indian Chiefs May 12, 1779]
"To the distinguished character of patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian" [May 2, 1778, at Valley Forge]
During his inauguration, Washington took the oath as prescribed by the Constitution but added several religious components to that official ceremony. Before taking his oath of office, he summoned a Bible on which to take the oath, added the words “So help me God!” to the end of the oath, then leaned over and kissed the Bible.
Nelly Custis-Lewis (Washington’s adopted daughter):
Is it necessary that any one should [ask], “Did General Washington avow himself to be a believer in Christianity?" As well may we question his patriotism, his heroic devotion to his country. His mottos were, "Deeds, not Words"; and, "For God and my Country."
“Most Glorious God, in Jesus Christ, my merciful and loving Father; I acknowledge and confess my guilt in the weak and imperfect performance of the duties of this day. I have called on Thee for pardon and forgiveness of my sins, but so coldly and carelessly that my prayers are become my sin, and they stand in need of pardon.”
“ I have sinned against heaven and before Thee in thought, word, and deed. I have contemned Thy majesty and holy laws. I have likewise sinned by omitting what I ought to have done and committing what I ought not. I have rebelled against the light, despising Thy mercies and judgment, and broken my vows and promise. I have neglected the better things. My iniquities are multiplied and my sins are very great. I confess them, O Lord, with shame and sorrow, detestation and loathing and desire to be vile in my own eyes as I have rendered myself vile in Thine. I humbly beseech Thee to be merciful to me in the free pardon of my sins for the sake of Thy dear Son and only Savior Jesus Christ who came to call not the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Thou gavest Thy Son to die for me.”
