  • Drove an SS and a V6 Camaro today

This was a promotional thing - GM's Test and Drive Event at the Inland Empire Auto Show.

I had to drive 2 cars first before I drive the Camaros, because there was a line for it. So I drove the Buick Enclave and the Chevy Silverado. They were both nice and I was surprise how much nicer the Enclave was compare to the BMW's SUV.

Afterwards I jumped straight to the Camaro SS. I have 4 miles to do what I want with it and the guy who was riding with me wants me to floor it as many times I want as long as it is safe. So I got to floor it 3 times on empty streets and it was a blast. Once I pass 3k rpm my back was pressing on the seat. Really torquey. I can't believe how quiet and powerful this car is.

I had my wife who was at the back time me with her cell phone from 0-60 when I floored it and 2x's she got me at 4.5 sec.

The V6 was really nice too. It really pulls. I only floored it only once because the lady who was with me was scared. Very smooth power. I guess that's typical for multivalve and cam engine. But my Firebird V6 is definately way faster and torquer than this V6. But this V6 has a lot of potential.

Hmm... with 3 people in the car 0-60 in 4.5 secs is pretty darn quick. I have never actually timed my Trans Am, usually when I floor it from a standstill im too busy keeping the posi fish tail undercontrol and then watching out for second gear to come in and by the time I can look down im already near 70-80...its pretty exciting hehe. Its the only car I have ever rode in that still makes me giddy whenever I step into it.

4.5 is not an accurate thing ofcourse, but it was fun doing it anyway.

Yeah, compare to stock LS1 fbodies it's not that much faster. Just a bit torquer though.

Bet it was fun. I drove one and was not happy about the 360* view from inside the car. Almost all blind spots and the rear window was too small for my taste. Or course that's what everyone says when they ride in my car with me. "this dash is too big for me, and I can't see the hood..." Sorry pal, this isn't your grannies Towncar. But yeah, not a huge fan of the new ones. I thought I would be until I saw them in person... Personally I'd take the 2011 Mustang GT. That's just me though.

I think the new camaros are way sexy..But I can't justify the price for a car that I would only drive half of the year. Theres quite a bit of price change from a V6 to V8 too.

Yours will be faster for sure. These camaros are heavy cars. You can feel it on the V6. But they are very nice indeed. I love the interior.

This guy speaks the truth. Even with the 427hp LS3 under the hood, its not able to compensate for a 3800 lb car plus three 150 lb passengers. I've driven the both the Ls3 m6 (twice) and the 400hp l99 a6 (once) both felt like they had nothing under the hood until you reached upper 4k rpms. Because of the weight, it doesn't feel like theres any low end torque but when you get up there they can be some fun. On the other hand it gets old revving the piss out of the engine all day to stay in the power. Thats just stock though; many people have done full bolt-ons and are pushing 430 whp basically waking the engine right up. I haven't had the luck yet to drive a modded one yet but I'm sure its a lot more fun...

The LS1 on the other hand was touched by the hand of god...

                      :P
