The 8400 is what she still owes on the lean for the car so that jsut her pay of fon it. Ive never seen a LS1 WS6 or SS go for under 10k with under 70k miles on it. Im getting 8k out ov my camd v6 car which is a 01 with 81k on it so thats 1500 over bluebook value. I woud liek someont to post up an add showing a LS1 car at the price some of you speak of with low mileage. Please amaze me.
Thats why shes asking so much cause she wants to pay off the loan so she's not desperate. Its not a good deal at all! don't be the next person to get screwed by the bank!.

Exactly. I see them all the time going for much less than 8k because a lot of the people who own them locally are military folks and with guys getting deployed for the year a lot of them will want to sell quickly. here's a perfect example of a good LS1 car at a reasonable price.
    http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1917666920.html

I could get this car for $6500 no sweat. If I had cash I could probably talk him down to as low as $5500.

Now the dealership prices are stupid. There was one going at the local acura dealership for 18,500.

Best place to go is private dealers who are desperate ;)

2 things here make that car cheaper. It is a 98 compared to the one IM after being a 02'. Older cars go for less which is commons sense. Also that one is just a TA, the one IM after is a WS6 which drives the cost up a lil. As I stated the car kbb's for almost 12k so I dont see a problem with the price here. Now if someone can show me an 02 WS6 with lower mileage for cheaper be my guest. I can get a 99 model with 187k miles for 6500 but with similar mods buts its not a true WS6 and its A4.

Agreed. From what I've seen '02s are much more desirable than '98-'00s what with being the absolute "last of the breed". And, price wise, there's a world of difference between a regular TA and a WS6.

The wife had this car dropped and accessorized with go fast goodies?!

IMO, the car looks a bit beat and I DO think you can find a better car at this price. Just because the husband (it's his car, don't believe that it is not) owes the bank $8400 on in does not mean it is worth it. If I were you I would keep looking as there will be plenty of nice Fbodies for sale now that winter is right around the corner. Good luck...

OK, I just did some quick research and found that many 02 WS6 cars with 30k-80k miles are going for $11k-$26k on many craigslist sites across the country. Perhaps this is a good deal but I'm still apprehensive...again, Good luck!

Re: Looks like Ill be stepping into a LS1 car

Nothing pisses me off more than someone who doesn't clean their car before selling it. If they don't take the time to clean the car and make it presentable for show, they probably didn't take the time to maintain it either. Even if I daily drove the car that was for sale and it got dirty, I still washed the damn thing before I showed it.

Add to fact that it has been dropped and customized with a bunch of "go-fast goodies".. and I guarantee that those 103k miles on the OD were HARD driven miles.

Whether the car is a 2002 or a 1998, it's still 8-12 year old and the prices for '98-02 Trans Am's on AutoTrader and Cars.com are all over the board and some of the private party asking prices are nearly the same for both a 1998 model with 100k miles and a 2002 model with a 100k miles.

You asked for our opinions. Save your $8,400, be patient, shop around and a much cleaner and probably well maintained Trans Am will fall in your lap. There are hundreds of them online in your price range that are 1-owner, very clean and look like very nice cars.

Exactly! You know that car is going to need more work than it actually looks as with any Sportscar you buy its been driven hard and parts will need to be replaced. I strongly doubt that car will be reliable for two long.

I'm not buying that crap either with it being the wifes car.

What blows my mind about this car is they still owe $8400 to the bank!. Like did they buy this car new? or what? cause somebody got ripped and the next person will also get ripped by the bank again. Its a raw deal on a raw car. Winter is around the corner and many sportscars will drop in price.

I see a huge problem with price. Again what blows my mind is that they still owe $8400 on this car. I don't know how you and a few others aren't seeing this! You also have to take into consideration like jetls mentioned that those 103kmiles are probably hard miles put on that car. I can almost promise you that a new tranmission will be in order soon, along with a few other necissary things at those miles.

I can careless if its not a WS6 or not, I can't tell the difference and i've driven them both other than the fact that one has a ram air induction hood. Unless i have plans for the future like as a collector to keep this car or something id rather buy a base T/A instead of getting jipped by the bank for the next 5 years or so. Debt free in less time with a T/A beats time in debt with a real WS6. I know its only a 2k difference but it adds up in the long run. The best thing for these kinds of situations is to come up with the cash and find a desperate seller.

I would keep looking, the WS6 badge on their just tacks on a couple Gs. Look for a base t/a or Z28.

Im looking at getting an 00' z28 a4 with 53k miles for 7k.

                    in your area:
                    same price, less miles:

KEEP looking you'll find better. It took me almost a year to find my firebird, and ive spent almost another year looking for a low mileage ls1 thats unmolested. be patient.

Re: Looks like Ill be stepping into a LS1 car

In 2005 I took out a loan and purchased a 1-owner 1996 Camaro Z-28. The car had 73,000 miles, fully loaded, power everything, leather, t-tops and the top of the line stereo option for that year. The car was basically one trim level below an SS. By the time I figured in tax and title I had had paid roughly $7,500 for the car. If I remember correctly, the NADA on it was $8,200. I felt like I got a good deal at first, but I didn't. Why? Because the car was a mechanical nightmare.

I sold that car until December, 2008 with 134k on the OD for $3,000. I was out of work for a long period of time and had no other choice because I went back to school. I had maybe four calls in the five months that it was for sale on Craigslist. I owed my credit union just shy over $2,500 for the car at the time. Six months prior to selling the car I had new machined black Z06 rims and Firestone tires mounted on the car, costing $1,100 total. I installed a set of Pacesetter headers, y-pipe, Magnaflow 3in. catback, NGK TR55 plugs, MSD wires, custom embroidered "Z28" floor mats from YearOne, Optima Redtop battery, new transmission.. all of that money gone. I never really got to enjoy the car towards the end and took a rather significant loss. I never bothered to add the cost of my aftermarket bullcrap to the asking price of my car because nobody would pay me for it. I had to keep it all on or inside of the car because I sold the original parts.

What is the point to this story? Cars are a net loser from the beginning. You will never get back the money that you invested. From my experiences, people tend to shy away from cars that appear to have been modified because that usually means that the car has been driven hard or raced. I love modified cars, but I would never purchase one because I don't know whats been done to it or how much abuse it has taken. That isn't to say that I will never modify another car again, but I know the risks involved when it comes time to sell it.

A modded '02 WS6 T/A that was driven by this man's wife huh? I'd be more likely to believe Nanci Pelosi if she finally admitted that the healthcare bill was a REALLY BAD IDEA.

$8,400 is a lot of money. If you have your mind set on this black T/A then go for it. For that kind of money I would be patient and shop around for a similar car that has a much more honest history, hasn't been modified and looks like someone actually cared for it. I go through cars faster than Dictator Obama goes through stimulus bills. :omg: Thats right, I said it! So believe me, I know what I am talking about.

Re: Looks like Ill be stepping into a LS1 car

Personally, I think $8400 is a good price, but I'd steer clear of any modded cars. Why would a person modify the car if they don't drive it hard? If they're happy with the performance they would keep it as is.

Most 2002 WS6 T/A's are expensive. These are the best 2 in terms of price and mileage that I found on Auto Trader:

                          $15,888 for a black WS6 with 18,700 miles:

                          http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

                          $22,600 for a Collector's Edition T/A with 11,600 miles:

                          http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

If you decide to buy the car, be sure to check under the carpet in the trunk for signs of crash damage patch-up work, or water/silt flood damage.
2001 white Firebird (completely stock)<br /><br />2003 Civic LX sedan for my daily commute. 115 hp (Yes, pathetic, but gets me 36 mpg!)

The truth is anyone can bring a car to the drive through car wash and have their car looking clean. The fact that the interior looks spotless say's how they treated the car IMO.

If you have a good mechanical background, just make sure and check it out real good. Otherwise, bring a mechanic to take a look. $8,400 is not a good price, it's a GREAT price if the car checks out. I don't know what people here are smoking.

Well I did find another 2002 TA with 81k on it thats never been moded or anything for 8100. Its not a WS6 or a M6 but it looks to be in good condition and it has listed what hes fixed on it like new headlight motors and such. Its a NBM car.

That sounds like a much better car from the description. Documents are also an important thing to get when buying a car from a private owner. You know what you doing, but something doesn't seem right about the '02 you were looking at. What all of us are trying to say is.. shop around and buy a car that you know is reliable and taken care of.
