I could get this car for $6500 no sweat. If I had cash I could probably talk him down to as low as $5500.

Now the dealership prices are stupid. There was one going at the local acura dealership for 18,500.

Best place to go is private dealers who are desperate ;)
There is a 02 SLP SS camaro with 9,900 miles on it going for 14,900 close by. Now thats a good deal but its been there for 9 months. No one wants these damn cars anymore. Thats why you can get them so cheap.

Thats a better deal. Now offer him $7500 and I'm sure he'll take it

Another good place to look around is http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/vehicle-classifieds-133/

I bought my 01 z28 camaro with 32k miles for $9000 last year from that site from a guy 10 states down. Its always best to buy from another state, just be prepared to pay the excise tax.

I don't know the value, but I absolutely love the tan interior on black. Personally, I wouldn't buy it because of the miles on it, the mods, and the dirty looking engine. However, you might be able to use all of that to do a little bargaining.

This may be slightly OT but frankly I'm annoyed with it being said so much... but you can't just say things like "he's asking 8000, but I'm sure he'll take 7" or "he's asking 6500, but u can talk him down to 4 considering the mileage and wear". Those are ridiculous assumptions. Fact is you don't know until you talk to the person. Some people are delusional considering the price, or they absolutely NEED the asking price to pay off their mortgage/house/boat/kids emergency surgery, so you can't just assume the real value of the car is 20% lower than the asking and go about it like you're gonna pay less than asking. I worked hard just to talk the seller of my car down 5%.

Point is... Don't make assumptions when buying a car. You'll just end up disappointed.

You really should assume things about a car that way there are no surprises. If you assume are cars been beat on you'll look for related damage, like the rear gears whining, or the tranny not shifting right away, a car thats seems low on power. The fact that you only talked a guy down 5% shows that you were in a rush to buy a car that you really wanted and let your emotions come into play. Meaning, if you were patient, you would have said, "eff this guy, I'll keep looking. Then you would soon find a car with WAY less miles for less money in better condition. Going with your instincts is always the smart answer. Paying full price for anything is for chumps; Some people just don't know how to haggle.

Um, the definition of assumption means it is something taken for granted and not deduced from fact. By definition, an assumption isn't something you intend to investigate. So, no, you shouldn't assume anything. Especially when it comes to buying a car.

I know how to haggle, but yes I was in somewhat of a hurry since I was in need of transportation and many private sellers never returned my calls. Like I said, my point is that you shouldn't go to a seller assuming you're automatically going to pay 20% under asking just because you think you have "awesome" haggling skills.

As far as "paying full price for anything is for chumps"... I'd hate to be the cashier at your local grocery store. :D

Re: Looks like Ill be stepping into a LS1 car

prices for ls1 fbodys really really range from much higher to much lower from what ive seen and heard here and on ls1tech depending on where you are from. i got my 98 TA with 94k for 6300 and for here in NC, thats a STEAL. but according to other people/places.. I shouldnt have paid more than like 5500 for the car.

Wouldn't you clean the car up before you took pictures of it to sell it even if you drove it every day?

Common sense would say yes, but from what I've seen 90% of private sellers don't give a ****. It's mind boggling.

That is the point I made above. Even if I daily drove the car that I was selling I still cleaned it before I showed it. Sometimes I only had 15 minutes between the time they called and the time they looked at it. Laziness.

An assumtion doesn't mean something you take for granted. •take to be the case or to be true; accept without verification or proof; "I assume his train was late" or "Its my assumption that you're an evil manipulating clown."

So if you assume a cars be beat on, it leads to the "investigation" part and steers you in the right direction when confirming your assumptions while you look over the car. This will bring you to the point of offering way less than someone is asking and saves you money for more mods  If they don't like your offer, than walk away :naughty:

lol.. Some people really don't have good haggling skills, I personally have practiced since I started driving. I love going to the car dealership (I know this is douchie but) pick out a car, test drive it, and then offering them thousands less than there asking. Work on the price for 30 minutes or so and after we come to an agreement. I'll walk away saying its not for me.

... and all of this just because the guy wants to buy a Trans Am. You'd be wise to tell all of us to shut the hell up and go buy what you want. :poke:
