Re: fast v6 or quick v8

It just depends on you. Making a V8 fast is very simple, but making a V6 fast is challenging.

V8 has more potential for power.

V6 feels more rewarding in making it more powerful.

At the racetrack many people talk about fast V6s like the GN, Typhoon and Syclone. A fast V8 is so common that people expect it to be fast.

Second option. But my choice is slightly biased.

        v8 by far.

its going to get a ton more mpg, can run on low octane (i just paid $7.50 a gallon for 110 leaded octane) and will sound 100x better, and will probably have way less maintenance

option number 1 if it is street octane tunable...also, only if it has the right kinda turbo kit...should be untouchable...no cam?

X2 Edgar, thats what I would have said , I'm picking up a 02' LS1 Camaro on Sat. and it willl be my DD with the 2.73 gears it has and my turbo 3800 will be the track car. Most guys would go the other way around , but I will get some headers and suspesion for the LS1 plus I have HPtuners alrready for it, guy ran it withas is with cheap 16 X 8 tires and got a 13.7 and 108 MPH so I think U can get it to low 13's high 12's will some tunning and bolt on mods, nice for a DD. LOL I hpe to get low 12's high 11's with the turbo 3.8.

Mush easier to go with a v8.

If $ wasnt an issue, I'd go v6. More impressive to others when you have a v6 outrunning average v8's. :)

I got both, fixing up/DD my v6 and fix up my '89 v8 bird. :D

Since its already a V6 might as well keep it a V6.

I've been thinking about doing a BMW V-12 or MB V-12 swap to mine.:burn:

Since when did a V8 get a better mpg than a V6? An LS1 is no "hybrid".

A standard V6 will get better mpg than a standard V8 no matter what car it is. If you said you went from a V6 to a V8 then I will tell you look how you are driving. You tend to step harder on the V6 to get to a certain speed, while you tend to ease up on the V8.

I have auto and if I baby my gas pedal I can get 32mpg and mine is modded too. But the 2.8 V6 I have get even better mpg than my 3.8. Except the Fiero. The 3 speed auto sucks gas like crazy.

I always thouight a carefully modded V6 would make a great street car....fast enough and nimble for everyday driving. A couple of engine and suspension mods for a great daily driven V6 would be a lot of fun.

comparing a stock v6 to a stock v8 when this thread is about a build v6 and a mild v8 makes no sense when it comes to fuel mileage.

and that is not true that a standard v6 will get better mpg than a standard v8 in any car, have you ever heard of displacement on demand? yeah, the v8 will shut its cylinders off giving it WAY more mpg than the v6 would, since it cant be running on 3 cylinders.

in real world situations, i see that most people with the same driving habits get very similar to almost equal mpg between the ls1/v6 fbody

                            thats with current engines.

ls1s do not have the cylinder shut off feature.
