Well guys, I'm leaving again. I got a job and will be moving back to Oman (next to Saudi Arabia, refer to map) on tuesday. It was just finalized yesterday, so I basically have 4 days to pack my life into 2 suitcases. It doesn't help that I also have to sell my car (the Volvo) and am not willing to take a hit on it like I did with the Camaro.


I am either going to be living in a rural interior city towards the north, or a southern city near the border with Yemen. Either way I'm looking forward to the complete immersion, it should be great for my Arabic.



Just wanted to let you guys know. I probably won't be around for a while. If anyone makes it to the region for whatever reason, drop me a line.

They do have internet over there, its just going to take me a while to get settled in and whatnot. I'll probably be relying on internet cafes at first, then switch over to a wireless modem.

As for the job... its a secret.


I don't HAVE to move over there, I want to. I am 22 and have spent more than 13 years living outside of the US, I just miss it. I enjoy being able to work on my languages and interact with different people. I love the US, I just don't really want to live here right now.

Violence... Ha! Oman is one of the safest countries around. When I lived there for a few months back in 2008 I was hitchhiking everywhere, the people are absolutely amazing.

I was kidding about the job being secret. I'm going to be teaching and doing some educational development stuff. This position is just short term though (a year). While there I'm going to be trying to get more into international business (oil?). My academic focus has been the influence of cultural values (religion) on policy. I am hoping to be able to apply this to business.


My passion in life is traveling. I think that, especially for my generation, it is really valuable experiencing different cultures while we aren't tied down by families and whatnot. As such, I will have an open door if anyone wants to come visit!

WOW!!! That's a huge step. Oman is a nice country. Hopefully before I die I would like to visit Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kuwait, and Oman. I've pretty much traveled all of Europe except for the Czech and Russia and some of Asia except for China, Malaysia and India. Yeah, I miss travelling. My dad works for the airline industry and I get my discounts from him.

You should definitely make that trip! I haven't been to Saudi Arabia, Yemen, or Kuwait yet... so let me know when you want to go! You can have your own personal translator.

I have spent ~2 months in Egypt (split into 2 trips), its a very cool country. Its also a great first Muslim country to visit, if that makes sense.

Earlier this summer I went to Palestine ("Israel") for a little while. Hit up Jerusalem and the West Bank. It really is amazing to see, VERY powerful/emotional.

I lost all of my pictures from that trip when my camera was stolen, but here is one of Israel (taken from Jordan).
