  • ls7 clutch installed...

So i installed everything yesterday. Clutch, new pilot bearing, and upgraded 01-02 slave with new throwout bearing. It took me about 7 hours to do by myself. I have never taken a t56 out till now and it was very strait forward i must say. And the difference is night and day. My old ls1 clutch was pretty shot and didn't acelerate till the pedal was almost completely released. This one has a lot more control and starts accelerating immediately upon pedal release. Just WOW. Also got my red umi strut tower brace installed which took all of 2 minutes.,. Fun times...

You mean shock tower brace. My STB actually made a pretty noticeable difference in everyday driving, even though most will swear it's a visual mod only.

Sounds good though, I saw the title, and before I saw the poster I was thinking wth (and how) would you put an LS7 clutch on a 6'r. Makes sense though now.

$275 + 7hrs = Cool investment in DIY repair. Invaluable for sure.

I just saw my friend spend $800 for a stock '97 3.8L Firebird stock clutch R&R with the same (non LS7) necessary parts you listed.

Does the LS7 clutch kit come with R&R instructions? I'm interested in saving some money for next year.

                  Alex,
Yeah it was a good investment overall. Saved a lot of money doing the work myself. It didn't come with instructions. It's a simple swap. No special parts or adapters needed. Make sure if you get the clutch you get the ls2/ls7 flywheel too.

Just want to confirm, the LT1 and LS1 are the same T-56 trannys so an LS7 clutch should work in my application as well?

different bell housings i know for sure. i think the input shafts r the same. But almost positive that LS clutches dont work inside a LT1 car.

Same tranny with diff bell housings. The hydraulics are diff though. You've got a hydraulic slave cylinder whereas the LS1 has a hydraulic throw out bearing. If it is possible there would be more too it than just swapping the clutch and flywheel.
