Either way 3K is too high which was the point of my post, he wasn't talking $400-600, he was talking $3k. The 1500 quote he got is much better.
Thats if a shop pulls the trans, rebuilds it and puts it back in. But yeah that makes sense.

Anything over a grand is too much when you can pull it yourself and rebuild it or grab a low mileage trans to put in for a few hundreds.

Got some new prices, haven't looked at junk yards yet gonna do that this weekend.

A local transmission shop quoted me for $1500 for a full rebuild including parts and labor with a warranty.

I called Late Model Race Craft, they have a freshly rebuilt T-56 with some performance parts in it already, billet keys, hardened shift fork and some other stuff for $1500 plus a $450 labor charge to swap the trans. Or they can rebuild mine for about $1200 including parts and labor.

Re: Well I might be Camaro-less...

If both the Z and the 3.8 are paid off I say get the trans rebuilt, get around to fixing that Z then buy a Honda of craigslist for a daily driver.

It's never a good idea to drive a Camaro as a daily driver to begin with. No point on jumping into a car payment for 5 years and be back in the same position in the near future. I always said if God forbid my transmission was to crap out on me, I would weigh in my options before I finally say screw it and let it sit in the yard.

But try everything you can to avoid a car payment if possible, its better to fix than to lease. Trust me.

Lose the 97Z28. If it were an LS1, it would be worth keeping, but not for a weaker "there goes the Optispark again" 1997 model.
