79 Birds didn't come with a 455,they had 400ci Pontiac,a 403 Olds,a 301 Pontiac or a Chev 305.
The 455 will bolt right up if it came with a 400 or 301.
If it was originally a Olds 403 or 305 car you will need the motor mounts but the bolt holes are there.

There's lots of aftermarkets for it. My neighbor back then had the 442 Olds with the 455 and that thing is a monster. It does 9 sec. at the track. Forget the 427, just go for that 455.
Both have lots of aftermarket support still although the Pontiac has a bit more.

Re: found a 79 ta
The 455 is a good engine. No reason to put a Chevy engine in it. You'll need a tranny with a BOP(Buick, Olds, Pontiac) bell housing though. That shouldn't be difficult to find. If you get it for a good price it would be a fun car to drive. Is it a T-top car?

Pics? Price? I couldn't see spending more than $1000 on this thing if it's as much of a basket case as you lead us to believe.<a href=\"http://www.fullthrottlev6.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.fullthrottlev6.com</a><br /><a href=\"http://www.chitownracing.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.chitownracing.com</a>
